President Biden’s amnesty for 11 million or more border-jumping illegal aliens will cost taxpayers almost $500 billion through the next 20 years.
The estimate comes from Steven Camarota of the Center for Immigration Studies, who looked into an analysis of the bill from the Congressional Budget Office. The amnesty is tucked into Biden’s $3.5 trillion “Build Back Better Act.”
Not that the cost matters to Traitor Joe. After all, by the time the bill comes due in full, he’ll most likely have gone to his reward, having left the country in a bigger mess than it was before he took office.
And when it comes to dispossessing the American people, money is no object.
“Little-noticed Part”
Camarota wrote about a “little-noticed part” of CBO’s estimate and found that it “shows a large negative fiscal impact — $124 billion in the first 10 years.”
But what is most striking about the CBO’s newest estimate is that the amnesty would create an additional $359 billion in net costs in the second decade after passage. The total net fiscal cost of the bill’s amnesty provisions over 20 years is $483 billion. Perhaps equally important, CBO states that the bill would increase the deficit “by larger amounts in the subsequent decade.”
As the Center has emphasized, the cost of any amnesty increases over time as illegal immigrants become eligible for more and more social programs, especially Social Security and Medicare. CBO’s extension of its normal 10-year time horizon is a welcome development that helps to capture more of these long-term costs.
The frightening cost is tied to the illegals’ illiteracy. They earn “modest wages and thus make modest tax payments,” Camarota wrote.
Less income means more welfare. “The realities of the modern American economy and the existence of a well-developed welfare state mean that allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the country and giving them any kind of legal status is very costly to taxpayers,” the CIS analyst wrote.
The Numbers
CBO’s breakdown disproves the open-borders lobby’s claim that immigrants are a net plus for the country. It also disproves that “the cost of the Build Back Better Agenda is $0,” one of the more risible claims from Biden and his leftist camp followers.
- $131.85 billion in new spending from 2022 through 2031, but only $7.49 billion in new revenue. Cost the first decade: $124.36 billion.
- $357.82 billion in new spending from 2032 through 2041, lost revenue of $1.24 billion. Cost for decade two: $359.06 billion
- Total for 20 years: $483.42 billion.
Taxpayers will get hit with the losses because illegals will get Medicaid, Medicare, ObamaCare, food stamps, Social Security, and Earned Income and Child Tax Credits “to a much greater extent than they would without legal status,” Camarota wrote.
Of course, illegals rewarded with Medicare and Social Security will have paid nothing into those programs, unlike millions of Americans who have been taxed hundreds of thousands of dollars during a lifetime of hard work.
“The primary reason the amnesty would have minimal effect on federal revenues is that immigrants’ increase in reporting of taxable income “would mostly be offset” because businesses “would report smaller taxable profits and pay less in income taxes,” Camarota wrote:
In other words, with legalization employers would be able to deduct the wages and benefits they currently pay off the books to illegal immigrants, thereby lowering their tax payments in roughly equal proportion to the increase in taxes illegal aliens would pay once legalized.
More Will Come
And this amnesty might not be the last.
Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have all but stopped deportations, and the illegal-alien invasion across the border with Mexico shows no signs of stopping. Border agents apprehended almost 165,000 illegals in October.
Thus, taxpayers can expect another amnesty in the future, and another after that, as the deluge of penniless “migrants” continues.
After that, Americans can expect Democrats to push a federal voting-rights bill for amnesty recipients even though they won’t be citizens.
A bill to permit “legal residents” to vote in New York City is scheduled for and likely to pass the City Council tomorrow. At least 14 states permit non-citizens to vote.
Americans have every reason to believe that illegal aliens who received amnesty will, sometime soon, help decide who is president of the United States.
