UN Predicts Climate Hell in Media Blitz for Global Warming Treaty

Get set for a year-long propaganda deluge of global-warming hysteria and climate change consternation. It has already begun, as world leaders prepare to converge at the United Nations headquarters in New York City this week for a Climate Summit on September 23.

“More than 120 Heads of State and Government will be attending the one-day Summit hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to generate political will toward a meaningful universal climate agreement in 2015, and advance action on the ground that will reduce emissions and build resilience to the impacts of climate change,” a press release from the UN stated on September 15.

As reported here on August 12 (Desperate Dash of Global Warming), the proponents of a UN-run climate regime to regulate and control all human activity are in a desperate dash to gin up support for a binding global treaty at the UN’s Climate Summit in Paris next year — before climate reality causes their dwindling support to melt completely.

Last week, on September 7, Lord Christopher Monckton provided one of the most recent fact-check rebukes to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the media chorus and politicians who continue to sing the IPCC’s discredited catastrophic warming refrain. Lord Monckton, former science advisor to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, has become one of the most forceful and popular voices challenging the radical political agenda dressed up as “climate science.” In this latest broadside, Monckton hammers again on a key fact that even many of the most well-known advocates of anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming (AGW) admit, but which most of the media totally ignore: that despite all the bombast, there has been no measurable global warming for the past 18-19 years! This is known in the climate science community as “The Great Pause.” Monckton writes at ClimateDepot.com:

The Great Pause has now persisted for 17 years 11 months. Indeed, to three decimal places on a per-decade basis, there has been no global warming for 18 full years. Professor Ross McKitrick, however, has upped the ante with a new statistical paper to say there has been no global warming for 19 years.

Whichever value one adopts, it is becoming harder and harder to maintain that we face a “climate crisis” caused by our past and present sins of emission.

Taking the least-squares linear-regression trend on Remote Sensing Systems’ satellite-based monthly global mean lower-troposphere temperature dataset, there has been no global warming — none at all — for at least 215 months.

As Monckton points out, this completely falsifies the IPCC’s dramatic predictions of continuous and calamitous planetary warming, allegedly due to CO2 pumped into the atmosphere by human consumption of carbon-based fuels. But even more important than the failure of the IPCC’s computer models to predict The Great Pause, says Monckton, is the fact that it has occurred during a period when the concentration of atmospheric CO2 has increased markedly. This, he and many other experts note, completely punctures the central thesis of the AGW balloon.

“This is the longest continuous period without any warming in the global instrumental temperature record since the satellites first watched in 1979,” says Monckton. “It has endured for half the satellite temperature record. Yet the Great Pause coincides with a continuing, rapid increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration.”

Propaganda Whammy from WMO

Notwithstanding The Great Pause and other embarrassing revelations that are causing the AGW house of cards to tumble, the United Nations is upping the ante in a bluffer’s gamble that the residual support they have built up by decades of climate fearmongering will get them across the Paris finish line before too many people wake up to the scam. To that end, the UN’s World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released a shameless AGW propaganda campaign in the form of a series of 14 frightening video “weather reports from the future” — fictitious reports using actual TV weather reporters from around the world.

The WMO press release announcing the videos admits that they were produced “to support the UN Secretary-General’s call for world leaders … to support ambitious action on climate change at the UN Climate Summit on 23 September.”

The WMO release states:

If humanity’s greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase, the average temperature of the Earth’s lower atmosphere could rise more than 4°C (7.2°F) by the end of the 21st century. But what does a global average temperature rise really mean? How would we experience it on a daily basis?

To find out what could lie in store, the WMO invited television weather presenters from around the world to imagine a “weather report from the year 2050.” What they created are only possible scenarios, of course, and not true forecasts. Nevertheless, they are based on the most up-to-date climate science, and they paint a compelling picture of what life could be like on a warmer planet.

These worst-case futures do not need to happen. WMO is launching these videos during the month of September to support the UN Secretary-General’s call for world leaders from government, finance, business, and civil society to support ambitious action on climate change at the UN Climate Summit on 23 September.

Are the WMO’s scary scenarios truly “based on the most up-to-date climate science”? Here are some withering critiques of the WMO futuristic fantasies by climate experts Dr. Tim Ball and Tom Harris of the International Climate Science Coalition, Bob Greene of JunkScience.com, Donna LaFramboise at NoFrakkingConsensus.com, and Bob Tisdale at WattsUpWithThat.com.

Hollywood Joins In

Adding to the propaganda blitz is the usual lineup of left-tilting Hollywood celebrity activists. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is leading the list, releasing a series of short films on Climate Change under the collective title “Green World Rising.” The first film, released last month, entitled “Carbon,” calls for carbon taxes and carbon accounting. Other celebrities — Susan Sarandon, Brad Pitt, Willem Dafoe, Peter Gabriel, Kiefer Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Joan Jett, Edward Norton, and Bette Midler — have signed on as supporters of the People’s Climate March, a global rent-a-mob coalition of astro-turf groups posing as an authentic grassroots movement. The People’s Climate March website says the organizers have planned dozens of events in New York City this week, and over 1,500 events worldwide, as a lead-up to the UN’s September 23 World Leaders Summit.
