Tom Harris (shown), is a happy warrior, an ebullient David taking on the Goliath global warming industry. Ever upbeat and always well informed, he is an effective (and likeable) debater and an articulate spokesman for the growing camp of scientist skeptics (or realists, as some prefer) who are challenging the increasingly discredited dogma of climate alarmism.
As executive director of the International Climate Science Coalition (climatescienceinternational.org) based in Ottawa, Canada, Mr. Harris is the organization’s public face and frequent media presenter. One of his most recent media forays is an opinion piece on the EPA’s new power plant regulations that appeared in the New York Post on August 10 entitled, “How the EPA ignores the public and science.”
The International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC) has established itself as one of the important “go to” sources on climate issues and boasts an impressive advisory board of noteworthy scientists, including:
• William Alexander, professor emeritus, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Pretoria, South Africa; member, UN Scientific and Technical Committee on Natural Disasters, 1994-2000, Pretoria, South Africa;
• Tim Ball, PhD, environmental consultant and former climatology professor, University of Winnipeg (founded the Rupertsland Research Centre);
• David Bellamy, OBE, PhD, English botanist, author, broadcaster, environmental campaigner, hon. professor of botany (geography), University of Nottingham, hon. prof. Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems, Central Queensland University, United Nations Environment Program Global 500 award winner, Dutch Order of The Golden Ark;
• Ian D. Clark, PhD, professor (isotope hydrogeology and paleoclimatology), Dept. of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada;
• Paul Copper, BSc, MSc, PhD, DIC, FRSC, professor emeritus, Department of Earth Sciences, Laurentian University Sudbury, Ontario, Canada;
• Lee C. Gerhard, PhD, senior scientist emeritus, University of Kansas, past director and state geologist, Kansas Geological Survey, U.S.A.;
• Vincent Gray, PhD, New Zealand Climate Coalition, expert reviewer for the IPCC, author of The Greenhouse Delusion: A Critique of Climate Change 2001;
• Ole Humlum, PhD, professor of Physical Geography, Department of Physical Geography, Institute of Geosciences, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway;
• William Kininmonth, MSc, MAdmin, former head of Australia’s National Climate Centre and a consultant to the World Meteorological Organization’s Commission for Climatology, Kew, Victoria, Australia;
• Nils-Axel Mörner, PhD (Sea Level Changes and Climate), emeritus professor of Paleogeophysics & Geodynamics, Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden;
• Gerrit J. van der Lingen, PhD (Utrecht University), geologist and paleoclimatologist, Climate Change consultant, Geoscience Research and Investigations, Christchurch, New Zealand.
The New American interviewed Mr. Harris (see the video embedded below) in Las Vegas at the Heartland Institute’s Ninth International Conference on Climate Change, where he was honored (see video here) as the winner of the Excellence in Climate Science Communication Award.
As he explained to The New American, Harris sees a big part of his job as helping dismantle the logjam of ideological “trench warfare” that has much of the scientific community divided into “Left” and “Right” camps. ICSC has contact with many scientists (including many who are socialists or liberal-Left, he says) who are privately skeptical of the IPCC and climate alarmism, but are afraid to come out publicly for fear of being labeled a “right-wing denier,” as well as also suffering retribution in their academic or government institution.
