Legendary president Ronald Reagan authored a “revolution,” seeking to shrink government, lower taxes, reduce regulations, and defeat the Soviet menace. He accomplished much governmentally, too, earning the ire of leftists who dubbed him “Ronald Ray-gun.” Yet in truth, he could do little about our cultural trajectory, and American society was notably more “politically correct” (i.e., Woke 1.0) when he left office in 1989 than when he’d entered it in ’81. It’s an old story: You can change who’s at the government’s helm, but who’s at the cultural “government’s” helm — that of academia, the media, and entertainment — remains the same.
(That is, unless you have an autocratic state playing cultural puppeteer.)
This said, one difference between the Reagan and Trump revolutions is that MAGA apparently has greater cultural focus. Despite this, though, and as during Reagan’s time, wokeness marches on. This is illustrated, too, by some recent stories, ones that in the ’80s would’ve been unheard of — or satire.
Rocky Mountain High (on What?), Colorado
It used to be that if you found your son in a dress, you took it away and kept the matter hush-hush. In some places now, however, not endorsing the dress and celebrating your son’s “girlhood” can mean he’ll be taken away. Just consider some Colorado craziness. As Gateway news organization wrote April 5:
Colorado House Democrats have just passed HB25-1312, cynically dubbed the “Kelly Loving Act,” which classifies “misgendering” or “deadnaming” a child as child abuse. Among its provisions, it establishes that in custody decisions, the intentional use of a minor’s birth name (known as “deadnaming”) or pronouns that do not align with their gender identity (“misgendering”) can be considered forms of “coercive control”….
This means that if a parent refuses to “affirm” the gender identity their child has chosen, they could lose custody immediately.
Of course, sex (not “gender”) affirmation should mean reinforcing with a confused boy that he is, in fact, a boy. (There’s funny thing about objective reality: It’s real.) Instead, the sexual devolutionaries demand that it should mean reinforcing his delusion. And below is a tweet of the Colorado Democrats aiming to facilitate just that.
According to YourNews, HB25-1312 would also make Colorado a “trans” sanctuary state. That is, custody-dispute-oriented court orders from other states prohibiting a child from getting SDTs (Sexual Distortion Treatments) would be ignored. The site also suggests that Colorado’s openly homosexual governor, Jared Polis, will sign the bill.
Don’t Mess With Texas — but Children’s Bodies are Negotiable
It’s not just liberal Colorado, either. On Sunday, I received a fundraising email from Texan Jeff Younger. Younger, 59, lost custody of his twin sons after a divorce. Worse still, his ex-wife, Anne Georgulas, is facilitating the SDTs of his 12-year-old boy James, who “identifies” as female. In fact, she moved to California for this very purpose. And she now has been given “the authority to ‘castrate’” James, as the New York Post writes, by a Golden State judge. The kicker:
The Texas Supreme Court could’ve ordered his sons returned to the Lone Star State to prevent this — but didn’t.
Apparently, abusing your child with genital mutilation and other SDTs doesn’t lose you parental rights in Texas. So cut, slice, and dice away, Mrs. Mengele.
Racial Equality? That’s for the Birds
Speaking of pretending, if you’re not black but can “identify” as such, it will save you money in conservative Utah. At issue is that state’s Ogden Nature Center, which offers bird-watching — and racial preferences. Oh, the birds probably get treated equally, whether they’re black birds, red birds, blue birds, or Big Bird. As for the bird watchers, most colors must pay admittance fees of $6 for adults and $4 for children. But black bird-watchers (as opposed to black-bird watchers) can enter free as part of a week-long “celebration” of black birders.
Yet this is not only bigoted, but illegal, columnist Todd Starnes pointed out Monday. He also notes that while the policy is “ruffling lots of feathers,” it’s not inexplicable. Nineteen “of the 20 staffers are female — the big glasses and purple-haired variety,” he explains. “A lot of dodo birds and cuckoos.”
“As the[y] say — birds of a feather flock together.”
Heterosexuality? There’s a Cure for That
If you flock to Pennsylvania’s West Chester University, however, the school may try to change whom you flock with. For it is there, Starnes reported last month, that students had “to justify their heterosexuality in a gender studies class.”
“The questionnaire on heterosexuality was meant to shame and embarrass boys who like girls and vice versa,” he continued.
Starnes also avers that the assignment “encouraged students to explore their sexuality and sleep with people of the same sex.” In fact, the first question was, “What do you think caused your heterosexuality?”
I would have answered, “God.”
Deutschland Über Alles — Including Free Speech
Now we move on to Germany, which, though having outlawed the Nazi Party, has apparently not completely shed its mentality. (If you’re wondering why a European story is relevant here, it’s because in our small, internet-connected world, what happens in Hamburg may not stay in Hamburg.) A case in point is that, as Gateway Pundit reported yesterday, a German court
handed down a suspended seven-month prison sentence to Deutschland-Kurier Editor-in-Chief David Bendels earlier today (April 7, 2025). The reason? A satirical meme.
The court found Bendels guilty of publishing a digitally altered image mocking Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) back in February 2024 on the DK’s X … account. The meme shows Faeser holding up a white sign that reads: “I hate freedom of speach” [sic] — a blunt piece of satire aimed at what critics describe as the minister’s increasingly authoritarian stance toward the press.
Of course, mocking the powerful via satire has been a Western tradition for centuries (see Jonathan Swift et al.) The Teutonic habit of punishing jokesters also won’t help with the German stereotype amusingly presented in the below one-minute video. What it will do, however, is further embolden our woke iron-muzzle types who would, if they could, still American tongues.
And that’s life in the waning third-millennium West. As for America, this rot will continue until, along with MAGA, we resolve to MAMA: Make America Moral Again. This requires shifting the focus from government to God, values to virtues, fashions to facts, tastes to truths, and the times to the timeless. Anything less may be politically expedient and placard-compatible, but it is self-delusion.
