SUNY Professor: Nothing Is Wrong With Adult-child Sex

Yet another taxpayer-subsidized university is dealing with a pro-pedophile professor who thinks nothing is wrong with adult-child sex.

The school is the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia, and the professor is one Stephen Kershnar, who discusses the topic at length in multiple videos posted at the Libs of Tik Tok Twitter feed.

Consent is irrelevant in discussing adult-child sex, Kershnar says, and forcing a child to have sex is no different than forcing him or her to do anything else. Adults force children to do things against their will every day.

What’s the Problem?

A “distinguished teaching professor” at SUNY Fredonia, Kershnar says he can’t quite grasp why an adult man having sex with a 12-year-old girl is a problem.

“Imagine that an adult male wants to have sex with a 12-year-old girl,” he said in one video interview:

Imagine that she’s a willing participant. A very standard, very widely held view is there’s something deeply wrong about this. And it’s wrong independent of it being criminalized. It’s not obvious to me that it is in fact wrong. I think this is a mistake. And I think that exploring why it’s a mistake will tell us not only things about adult-child sex and statutory rape, but also about fundamental principles of morality.

Then again, why stop at 12 years old? Kershnar isn’t sure that molesting a one-year-old is wrong.

“The notion that it’s wrong [to have sexual relations] even with a one-year-old, is not quite obvious to me,” he said:

There are reports in some cultures of grandmothers fellating their baby boys to calm them down when they’re colicky.… The grandmothers believe this actually works. If this were to be true, it’s hard to see what would be wrong with it.

In another interview, Kershnar explained that “we make children do all sorts of things they don’t wanna do.” So coercing a child into sex is no different than forcing her to go to bed or get up on time for school, or to attend church, her sister’s ballet recital, or a relative’s funeral.

“And we don’t care what they say.”

Kershnar’s interlocutor agreed. “That is all a child’s life is, is coercion by adults, and often, to make the child do something for the adult’s pleasure only.”

Thus, adult-child sex is permissible.

Kershnar has also put his thoughts in writing.

“Nonforcible adult-child sex is thought to be morally wrong in part because it is nonconsensual.” However, he wrote:

In this paper, I argue against this notion. In particular, I reject the accounts of the moral wrongfulness of adult-child sex that rest on the absence of consent, concerns about adult exploitation of children, and the existence of a morally primitive duty against such sex.

Kershnar’s book on the subject, 2017’s Pedophilia and Adult–Child Sex: A Philosophical Analysis carries this blurb at Amazon:

This sex intuitively strikes many people as sick, disgusting, and wrong. The problem is that it is not clear whether these judgments are justified and whether they are aesthetic or moral. By analogy, many people find it disgusting to view images of obese people having sex, but it is hard to see what is morally undesirable about such sex: here the judgment is aesthetic. This book looks at the moral status of such adult-child sex. In particular, it explores whether those who engage in adult-child sex have a disease, act wrongly, or are vicious. In addition, it looks at how the law should respond to such sex given the above analyses.

Understandably, SUNY Fredonia ran from the pro-pedo professor as if he had the plague.

“SUNY Fredonia is aware of a video posted online involving one of its professors,” the school said. “The views expressed by the professor are reprehensible and do not represent the values of SUNY Fredonia in any way, shape or form. They are solely the professor’s views. The matter is being reviewed.”

Allyn Walker (who thinks pedophiles must be called “Minor-Attracted Persons,” or MAPS), is another pro-pedo professor.  In an interview appearing on Twitter, the “queer criminologist” told pro-pedo journalist Noah Berlatsky that nothing is wrong with sexual attraction to children. Berlatksy thinks “pedophiles are essentially a stigmatized group.”

“MAPS”

In November, Old Dominion University in Virginia parted company with a pro-pedo professor who thinks pedophiles must be called “Minor-Attracted Person,” or MAPS.

For an interview that appeared on Twitter, “queer criminologist” Allyn Walker told pro-pedo journalist Noah Berlastsky that nothing is wrong with sexual attraction to children.

Berlatksy thinks “pedophiles are essentially a stigmatized group.”
