Pro-life Rallies to Celebrate First Anniversary of Dobbs

Pro-life groups across the land are gearing up to celebrate the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court on June 24, 2022 (Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization).

The majority opinion in that case was eloquently crafted by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito:

We hold that Roe and Casey [Planned Parenthood v. Casey] must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely—the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

This squares with the right to life declared to be self-evident in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life….”

Students for Life of America is hosting a “National Celebrate Life Day” rally at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. The group plans to roll out a new vision for the movement: “The 14th Amendment for All.”

The part of that amendment used to write off millions of lives of unborn children is this: “[No state shall] deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” If a fetus isn’t a person, then it may be discarded by the mother. If it is, then he or she is entitled to the full protection of the rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights to the U.S. Constitution.

ProLifeAction.org continues to update its listing of events celebrating the decision, including marches, rallies, parades, chili cookoffs, and volleyball games. Some will be held outside Planned Parenthood abortuaries, others at downtown federal office buildings. In New Jersey, for instance, the Rally for Life will take place at the State House Annex in Trenton. World Beyond Roe’s celebration will occur in front of the Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C.

Focus on the Family, headquartered in Colorado Springs, is promoting the “It’s Still a Baby” video both digitally and on television.

The organization’s Jim Daly said:

Tragically, the culture has gotten too comfortable using antiseptic scientific terms to dehumanize a child in the womb.

We wanted to challenge that by plainly and simply showing — in situations we’re all familiar with — that it’s a baby. And to call it anything else just doesn’t make sense.

Darin Gaub, co-founder of Restore Liberty, has another idea: make June “Pro-Life Month.” After all, wrote Gaub:

June has Flag Day and Father’s Day but no other holiday worthy of such national recognition and celebration as would be one celebrating life.

Having June as Pro-Life Month means we can remember the tens of millions of lives lost while also celebrating the victories won on behalf of babies across the nation.

As a nation we must always protect and defend the lives of the innocent.
