Poll Shows Public Dead-set Against Biological Males Competing Against Females in Sports

In a new poll released by Just the News in conjunction with veteran pollster Scott Rasmussen, registered voters were asked if biological males identifying as female should be allowed to compete in women’s sporting events. A vast majority of those polled said that so-called transgender females should not be allowed to compete against actual females in sporting contests.

Overall, 60 percent of the 1,200 registered voters polled agreed that biological males should not be allowed to compete against females in sporting contests while only 21 percent thought it was okay. 19 percent of those questioned were undecided on the issue.

Eighty-one percent of respondents who identified as Republican held the view that biological males should not be allowed to compete against females. Fifty percent of Democrats agreed, while 25 percent of the party thought that males who identify as female should be allowed to compete against females. Independent voters also felt that such contests would be unfair by a 51-24 percent margin.

The polls comes amid the ongoing controversy about whether transgender females (boys who identify as girls) should be allowed to compete as girls given their obvious physical advantages in strength and speed. Some in the LGBT community argue that biological males who feel that they’re actually female should be allowed to compete as females, while others argue that such competitors have an unfair advantage in competitions designed specifically for females.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court issued an opinion that the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects gay and transgendered persons from employment discrimination. Many feel, however, that the Court’s decision should not stretch into athletic competition, especially one would think on the amateur level.

Attorney General William Barr has even weighed in on the controversy: “Allowing biological males to compete in all-female sports deprives women of the opportunity to participate fully and fairly in sports and is fundamentally unfair to female athletes.”

Connecticut, along with 17 other states, has allowed biological males who identify as female to compete against girls. Three female athletes — Selina Soule, Chelsea Mitchell, and Alanna Smith — have filed suit against the state, claiming its rule on transgender participation violates Title IX. The girls were upset that two male athletes who identify as female were winning almost all the events that they competed in.

In the Connecticut case, Judge Robert Chastigny chastised attorneys for the plaintiffs for using the term “biological males” to describe the transgender athletes. Plaintiffs’ attorneys asked the judge to recuse himself for bias but the judge refused and is still on the case.

The Department of Education now agrees with the plaintiffs and is threatening to withhold federal funding from Connecticut until the policy is changed to allow only females to compete against females.

While that case continues to wind its way through the court system, the transgender assault on female athletics continues. The State of Idaho recently passed the Fairness for Women in Sports Act, which would prohibit the practice of allowing biological males to compete against females in the state. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), true to its nature, is challenging the law in court.

The Just the News/Rasmussen poll shows where the public stands on the issue — firmly on the side of biological females being allowed to compete fairly against other females. Yet, radical groups such as the ACLU continue to obfuscate the issue and claim it’s about discrimination against the transgender community.

But it’s not about discrimination; it’s about science and common sense. Men are inherently stronger and faster than females. Those are just facts. A loss on this front would be a death knell for female athletics and women would be, for the most part, relegated to spectators in sports that were supposed to be just for them.
