“Liberalism is a mental disorder,” commentator and ex-radio host Michael Savage would say, uttering a line that became one of his book titles. Critics might label this assertion polemics designed to boost entertainment value, but it may be vindicated by research. Just consider the 2021 study finding that more than 50 percent of young, liberal, white women have been diagnosed with some form of “mental health” problem. And, now, there’s this as evidence, too: Leftists melting down like snowflakes in an oven over Donald Trump’s election victory. In fact, it’s worse than that.
One liberal female scribe is actually “canceling” Thanksgiving and Christmas. She won’t be “celebrating the birth of Jesus,” she writes, with people who won’t rubber-stamp baby murder. (Ironic since Christmas celebrates a baby’s birth.)
Okay, she didn’t quite phrase it that way, but murder is a theme here. After all, there are also the leftists who, finding themselves unbalanced after Trump’s triumph, actually killed family members.
Till (Democratic Party) Death Do Us Part?
The Christmas canceler is one Andrea Tate, who apparently is the anti-Andrew Tate. Writing at HuffPost, which is always good for a retch, she discusses her growing resentment for her husband. His “sin”? It’s not just that he voted for the Orange Man. He also had the temerity to, post-election, express on social media the sentiment, “God Bless America. God bless #45, 47.” This apparently was enough to send Tate running for the Zoloft.
As she writes, relating what transpired November 6 morn:
He was downstairs in the kitchen making coffee, and I was upstairs avoiding him. I couldn’t talk to him — or even look at him.
I immediately texted, “I love you, but out of respect for me and all my liberal writer friends, can you please take down that post? Also, tell your family I love them, but I will not be coming for Thanksgiving, and I won’t be hosting Christmas. I need space.”
Shortly after I sent the text, he brought me a cup of coffee in bed.
“I am sorry,” he said, “I understand.”
Did he? Did he really understand what he and so many others in this country had done? I could not forgive him. Not right now.
Wow, what a catch.
Killers for Kamala?
Tate, however, is downright sane compared to some other anti-Trump liberals. First there’s the Minnesota leftist who murdered his ex-“partner,” wife, and two sons, and then killed himself, shortly after Election Day. As the New York Post reported this past weekend:
Before his rampage, [46-year-old] Anthony Nephew had been sharing left-wing and anti-Trump posts on his Facebook account.
“My mental health and the world can no longer peacefully coexist, and a lot of the reason is religion,” Anthony Nephew wrote in July.
Nephew “had a ‘pattern of mental health issues,’ Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa said on Friday,” the Post also relates. I’m sure.
Then there’s also this Post headline: “Wife of prominent trans writer hacked father to death with ice ax after Trump’s election night victory: cops.” As the paper related Wednesday, Washington State resident Corey Burke
was found smiling and clapping, covered in her loved one’s blood, cops said.
… Burke considered the bloody rampage — in which she allegedly strangled, bit and hacked her 67-year-old father in the $800,000 Seattle home they shared — an “act of liberation,” charging documents allege.
… Burke had been upset about the election and knew Trump would handily beat Vice President Kamala Harris when she allegedly snapped — apparently when her father, Timothy Burke, refused to turn off the lights.
… The killing was meant to “help people change their attachment to their parents” and “had to happen today,” Burke told police.
By the way, her unhinged status is further reflected in the pictures of her with her “spouse.” The Post presents them here.
Progressive Insanity?
And, in fact, this loss of leftist minds is a pervasive phenomenon. As commentator Olivia Murray wrote Thursday:
Vice reported today that the number of LGBTQ “crisis hotline” calls have spiked a whopping 700% since Trump’s victory — how often have we seen in-crisis “trans” people acting out in homicidal rages? Too many to count.
These people are deranged, having been whipped up into states of hysteria by a Democrat media and Democrat politicians, and they’re growing more violent. Earlier this week, I wrote a blog on a viral movement spreading across the leftist side of social media, encouraging women to lethally poison Trump-voting men.
Yet is this characterization of leftists as inordinately afflicted with “insanity” mere conservative bias? Not according to research. Just consider the following headlines:
- “New Study Finds Liberal White Women Struggle With Mental Health Issues.”
- “Leftism to Blame? MOST Mothers of “Trans” Boys Are Mentally Ill Themselves.”
- “Youths With Conservative Parents FAR Less Likely to Have Mental Problems: Study.”
The Real Connection
Of course, many find it fanciful, or even preposterous, that there could be a link between “politics” and “mental health.” This is because they view ideology as something relatively superficial. Yet just as “Politics is downstream from culture,” politics and culture are downstream from what lies deeper. That is, worldview or governing philosophy — or, as some may say, religion.
This gets at why I have the terms “insanity” and “mental illness” in quotation marks. Much of what are called “psychological problems” are actually spiritual/philosophical problems. They’re often what I’ll dub Deity Deficiency Disorder or, to put it plainly, godlessness.
Studies do bear this out, too. (I illustrated this in my 2014 essay “Religion: Crutch for the Crazy or Panacea for Peon and Prince?”) They found, definitively, that people of faith have better “mental health” than nonbelievers do.
In fact, the matter was framed quite bluntly by The Telegraph in 2013. “The evidence today implies that atheism is a form of mental illness…,” the paper wrote. “Lacking the vital faculty of faith … should be seen as an affliction, and a tragic deficiency: something akin to blindness.”
And perhaps summing up religion’s impact even more powerfully was award-winning research psychologist Allan Bergin. “Some religious influences,” he said back in 1990, seem “like the mental equivalent of nuclear energy.”
This brings us to the real reason for leftists’/Democrats’ “mental illness”: Mentally, they’re running on wind. In fact, “More than eight-in-ten atheists (84%) align with the Democratic Party, as do 78% of agnostics,” related Pew Research Center in April. The reality is, the Democratic Party is the godless’ home.
So, sure, we call them “mental problems,” but the correct diagnosis is Deity Deficiency Disorder.
And is this a surprise? Who knows better how to operate the human mind than He who created it?
