Explaining the Left’s Deep Hatred for America

Apart from Sandy Cortez (aka “AOC,” D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and New York City’s Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) party now claims 200-plus elected officials nationwide. This is why what’s part of the DSA’s platform is notable.

Among other things, the group wants to, quote, “[a]bolish the Senate and the Electoral College.”

The DSA also aims to create a “new political order.” How? Through, it states, “a second constitutional convention to write the founding documents of a new socialist democracy.”

The DSA endeavors to “disarm … the police” as well, and can’t talk enough about “white supremacy.” It additionally wants to see the “[s]ocial ownership of all major industry and infrastructure.” To be clear, this references “the end goal of seizing the means of production,” as Mamdani put it in 2021.

The DSA’s platform, essentially a litany of everything “wrong” with America, is 21 pages and more than 8,000 words. We don’t know how long a list of what these socialists like about America would be. But I’ll hazard a guess that it could fit on the back of a postage stamp.

Now, Senator John Fetterman (D-Penn.) has responded to the ascendancy of the DSA’s newest face, Mamdani. The Big Apple contender is “not even a Democrat,” said Big John. Alas, if only ’twere so, commentator Patricia McCarthy may lament. After all, the Democrats keep the DSA members in their midst and have embraced Mamdani. And as McCarthy puts it:

There can no longer be any doubt that the Democrat party not only hates America as founded, they mean to re-imagine our nation as a socialist/communist country[, which] it was never meant to be.

Anatomy of an Antipathy

McCarthy makes a number of points, some of which are:

  • Mamdani’s nomination as a socialist/communist candidate typifies his party’s extreme leftward transition.
  • For two generations, youth have been indoctrinated to hate America.
  • Young New Yorkers voted for Mamdani, an “Islamic communist,” blithely unaware of communism’s history (100 million deaths, millions exiled) and “Islamo-fascism.”
  • The Democrats, a Marxist organization, encourage violence, particularly against law enforcement, supporting paid protesters who attack ICE, Border Patrol, and local police.
  • The Left attacked Trump via lawfare and installed Joe Biden to advance their radical agenda.
  • Democrats protect criminal illegal aliens (murderers, rapists, pedophiles), opposing humane detention centers while ignoring Barack Obama’s use of “cages.”
  • Migrants are their new constituents, with demands for amnesty, social security, and census inclusion for congressional representation.
  • For a half-century, Democrats have controlled media, academia (destroying U.S. education), the CIA, the DOJ, and the FBI, consolidating power.
  • Democrats aim to destroy cities through violence and chaos to remake America as a Marxist/globalist state, where elites retain wealth and power.
  • George and Alex Soros fund daily violent protests to incite confrontation.

In reality, though, McCarthy understates the case. For example, youth have been indoctrinated for far more than two generations; that would only take us back to 1985. In fact, it was around that very time that Soviet defector and ex-KGB man Yuri Bezmenov spoke of the indoctrination. As he put it then, the “demoralization process” — the undermining of a people’s morals — was already “more than complete.”

Likewise, McCarthy credits Obama with being the “architect of our orchestrated demise.” Yet he was a symptom as much as a cause. It took a “demoralized” people to vote him into power in the first place.

Why They Hate

This is especially true considering that Obama explicitly called for a “fundamental transformation of America.” (This is much as how the DSA wants the U.S. transformed.) So many demoralized supporters got so caught up, too, in electing “the first ‘black’ president” and in his lofty sounding rhetoric that they never stopped to ask: Wait, what does “fundamental” mean?

Imagine you say your wife needs fundamental change. This doesn’t just mean she requires a new hairdo, wardrobe, or even cosmetic surgery. It means that the very essence of who she is must be changed.

It signals that you probably don’t like her very much.

And why does the “Left” dislike America? In an article last Tuesday, historian Victor Davis Hanson examined this matter. The Left is unhinged, he stated, because Trump’s agenda threatens not just their power, but the sources of their influence.

This explains the behavior of the power seekers such as political pseudo-elites. But what of the leftist base to which they pander? Hanson says that a sizable portion of it is “completely amoral.”

This relates to a phenomenon I’ve often addressed. For generations now, children have been raised in a corruptive environment. They thus have been inculcated not with an emotional attachment to virtue, but to vice. Therefore, they instinctively gravitate toward vice-facilitating ideologies. But elaboration is in order.

Meaningless Meaning

Among the many human needs is that for meaning. A properly formed person will often find that meaning in God, and he may take his faith very seriously. But what happens when you don’t have religion?

You may instead embrace “religion.”

That is, anything can be placed at your life’s nucleus — even darkness. Hatred is, after all, like love in one respect: It inspires passion. And passion enlivens.

Of course, the precise darkness embraced varies from person to person. But the feminist has come to believe that unless the (mythical) patriarchy is destroyed, she cannot be happy.

The multiculturalist has come to believe that unless the “white establishment” is destroyed, he cannot be happy.

The environmentalist has come to believe that unless man’s degradation of the planet is ended, he cannot be happy.

All the other dark “ists” are just the same, too.

And why is the hatred so intense? Why do, for example, leftists hate President Trump infinitely more than North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, a mass-murdering tyrant? It’s for the same reason police know that domestic disputes can be the most dangerous to intervene in. It’s for the same reason civil wars can be so bloody: Emotion runs so high.

Life in the Shell

This is why you may despise a perpetually irritating neighbor more than a despot across the sea, even if you know, objectively speaking, that the latter is a far worse man. Your neighbor is the grain of sand inside your shell, one from which no pearl will be forged. Things seem bigger when ensconced in small places, too — and your shell is a very small world, indeed.

Of course, you may be able to view matters dispassionately. Quarantining the emotion, you may say, “Alright, I can’t stand this guy. But _________ (a politician, neighbor, etc.) is no Kim.” But could you do this if governed entirely by emotion?

And that likely explains leftists. Trump is the Devil incarnate because their feelings say so. And MAGA is making them miserable and denying them meaning and happiness, and that’s all that matters. When dark emotion is your god, sublimity is sin and a savior can be your devil.
