On January 12, anyone on the Oath Keepers’ email-list received a cryptic notice that their online service provider, LiquidWeb, took down their site:
The Oath Keepers saw their deplatforming as a direct attack on their First Amendment-protected rights, and they have since switched providers and rebuilt the site.
Despite the lack of police force utilized when protesters pushed into the Capitol Building on January 6, and a lack of firearms confiscated by the FBI, the Justice Department has worked to file charges against anyone involved in the January 6 breach of the Capitol. Businesses and media outlets continue silencing or disassociating with those who even mention questioning election integrity.
Based on the events of that confusing day, the Justice Department is now considering charging the Oath Keepers with sedition in accordance with their role in the so-called Capitol Insurrection. How this would work is uncertain. Would they charge the founder? Would they charge those who have published pieces on the Oath Keepers website? Or would they charge the supposed tens of thousands of people who are part of this group?
Sedition itself is defined as “A revolt or an incitement to revolt against established authority, usually in the form of treason or defamation against the government.” But when election integrity is no longer transparent and government officials have been compromised by Chinese spies, the officials who compromised the Constitution should be punished instead of those sworn to protect the American people.
The Oath Keepers are the country’s largest private militia. They are a self-declared non-partisan group of retired firefighters, police officers, military personnel, and first responders whose main goal is to uphold their oath to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
In a constitutional republic, this oath seems acceptable, but since January, the Oath Keepers have been under constant political attack. This is directly linked to their support of former President Donald Trump and for not only questioning election results, but encouraging others to challenge them.
Their website encourages Americans to be proud of their country. They express boisterous opposition to Marxists, Communists, the Deep State, and anyone they consider a threat to the foundation and principles that the free world stands on.
To some they are heroes. To others they are over-the-top veterans who have maybe seen a little too much. But to the Justice Department, they are foes who need to get back in line.
The media has painted the Oath Keepers as extremist “right-wing” activists. Yet, there is little to no recorded evidence of them committing acts of extremism against the American people or political officials who uphold the constitution (as is their job).
So why now?
After another mass shooting this week, the push for gun control is once again being marketed on the political stage. It was a priority of the Biden campaign and is a priority of the Biden administration. A large militia of well-armed and trained individuals threatens gun-control efforts, as they are pro-Second Amendment.
In a free country, questions are supposed to fuel healthy debate. Healthy debate is supposed to allow us to work through our issues without committing crimes against each other.
It is unclear how this attack on the Oath Keepers will proceed, but it may have long-lasting consequences for patriots.
