Pro-Harris moderators of the CBS vice-presidential debate didn’t just blow one fact-check on immigration.

They flubbed another on the question of whether Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris was President Joe Biden’s “border czar.” U.S. Senator J.D. Vance said she was. CBS said she wasn’t. And CBS published that false claim despite its own reporting when Biden appointed the Indian-Jamaican vice president.

As well, the moderators didn’t fact-check one of far-left Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s claims when he and Vance argued about the Haitian Biden “migrant” invasion of Springfield, Ohio.

Nor did they ask Walz about any of his radical social beliefs, not least his delusion that boys can menstruate.

False Fact-check

CBS fact-checked Vance’s border-czar claim with an X post about an hour after midnight on October 2, then included it in a round-up the next morning.

“During the vice presidential debate, Senator JD Vance claimed Vice President Harris ‘became the appointed border czar,’” the network claimed. “CBS News Confirmed rates this as false.”

The full fact-check story offered “details”:

Vice President Kamala Harris was not asked to be the administration’s “border czar” or to oversee immigration policy and enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border. That has mainly been the responsibility of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and his department, which oversees the country’s main three immigration agencies, including Customs and Border Protection.

President Biden tasked Harris with leading the administration’s diplomatic campaign to address the “root causes” of migration from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, including poverty, corruption and violence. …

In reality, the only role close to that of a “border czar” under the Biden administration was held for only a few months by Roberta Jacobson, a longtime diplomat who served as coordinator for the Southwest border until April 2021.

CBS ignored not only its own reporting on Harris’ appointment but also that of other leftist mainstream media.

“Harris to lead administration’s efforts to stem migration at border,” said a headline over CBS’s report on March 24, 2021. CBS reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez contributed to the story, and also wrote the fact-check.

“President Biden tapped Kamala Harris, Vice President Kamala Harris, to be border czar,” a CBS reporter says on video posted to X.

Media’s False Claims

The leftist media have falsely claimed that Harris wasn’t the border czar since at least July.

The major networks and other media, including the The New York Times, all claimed Harris was never border czar, but perhaps the most amusing attempt to rewrite history came from Axios.

“The Trump campaign and Republicans have tagged Harris repeatedly with the “border czar” title — which she never actually had,” the website X posted. Readers attached a note and a link to an Axios story: “Axios previously reported on April 14 & March 24, 2021 that Kamala Harris was appointed as Border Czar.”

The U.S. House condemned Harris for failing as border czar on July 25, 2024.

Moderators Kill Vance’s Correction

As The New American reported yesterday, during the dispute over Springfield’s Haitian invasion, when Vance observed that “millions of illegal immigrants … compete with Americans for scarce homes,” moderator Margaret Brennan interrupted: “Just to clarify for our viewers,” Brennan said after Walz quoted the Bible, “Springfield, Ohio does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status. Temporary protected status.”

Vance corrected Brennan. The Biden administration’s CBP One Mobile app permits illegals to get permission to enter the country before they even leave home. Vance explained:

You can go on as an illegal migrant, apply for asylum or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand. That is not a person coming in, applying for a green card and waiting for ten years.… That is the facilitation of illegal immigration, Margaret, by our own leadership. And Kamala Harris opened up that pathway.

Replied Walz: “Those laws have been in the books since 1990.”

Moderators killed the microphones when Vance corrected Walz by saying:

The CBP app has not been on the books since 1990. It’s something that Kamala Harris created, Margaret.

Though Brennan thanked Vance for “for describing the legal process,” she did not acknowledge that Walz was dead wrong. Nor did a CBS fact-check on X, or the network’s morning-after fact-check.

Tampon Tim

But not correcting Walz on the CBP app falsehood was only one of the moderators’ sins of omission.

They also failed to ask him tough questions about his radical social policies as governor of Minnesota, which would have shown Americans just how far into the fever swamps of the Left Walz has hiked.

Last year, Walz signed a bill that requires the schools to provide menstrual products “to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students.”

That would include boys.

Also last year, he signed a “Trans Refuge” bill to “protect the rights” of “transgender” kids to get “gender-affirming care.”

The law permits doctors to offer such “care” to kids who “flee” states that prohibit it.

“Gender-affirming care” is “Trans” Lobby code for poisoning kids with hormones of the opposite sex, then mutilating them with “gender reassignment” surgery.

And Walz is singularly undisturbed by the partially nude homosexual child groomers who twerk at kids during “gay pride” parades in Minneapolis.

This year’s installment featured the North Star Kennel Club, a sadomasochist gang whose parade participants wore dog masks, collars, and harnesses.

Moderators also ignored Walz’s close ties to radical Islamists and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an unindicted co-conspirator in the federal case against the Holy Land Foundation of Relief and Development. In 2008, the foundation and its leaders were convicted of providing aid to Hamas.
