Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert introduced articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden on Tuesday for “his unconstitutional dereliction of duty at the southern border.”
Boebert, an outspoken firebrand and House Freedom Caucus member, announced in her press release:
Joe Biden unconstitutionally violated his duty under Article II of the Constitution to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed” by intentionally disregarding our immigration laws and enabling an invasion along our southern border. Joe Biden is unable and unwilling to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States. To preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution, it is imperative that the House of Representatives impeach Joe Biden and hold him accountable for his egregious violations of his oath of office.
Boebert cited her motivation for seeking to remove the president, sharing that Biden is responsible for the largest influx of illegal immigration in American history — over 5.3 million illegal aliens crossing the border — and has failed to stop the massive amount of fentanyl entering the country.
“The illegal immigration surge Joe Biden has created at the border has allowed 1.5 million illegal aliens to enter our country as ‘gotaways’—and those are just the ones we know about. The Biden administration has demonstrated a complete and total disregard for our immigration laws, as evidenced by the historic low number of deportation cases pursued,” she explained in her statement.
Making sure her peers knew that this wasn’t just political rhetoric or hyperbole, Boebert threatened to use a “privileged motion” if the House leadership fails to take action. A privileged motion is described as a parliamentary maneuver used to expedite action over urgent matters.
“I did this so at any time, if the committees and or leadership does not step up and actually do something about the president’s failure to secure our southern border and keep the country safe, then I will call my legislation my articles of impeachment for a privileged motion,” Boebert told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview Tuesday.
“Given the severity of the violation of Joe Biden’s constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of the president [of the] United States to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, this is something that we must do with our majorities in the House of Representatives,” Boebert said.
Along with fellow Freedom Caucus member Congressman Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) on Monday, the Colorado Congresswoman also cosponsored articles of impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris. Ogles focused on Harris’ failure as “border czar” to address the crisis at the southern border.
Vice President Harris has, according to the submitted articles:
Demonstrated extraordinary incompetence in the execution of her duties and responsibilities and an indifference to Americans suffering as a result of America’s ongoing southern border crisis…. Harris has directly betrayed the public trust of the United State [and] by such conduct, has demonstrated that she will remain a threat to national security and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law.
Ogles cited in the articles the same statistics regarding illegal immigration and fentanyl overdoses that were used concerning Biden to contend that Harris has failed in her duties to secure the border.
“Vice President Harris has consistently refused to visit the southern border to ascertain the root causes of the ongoing crisis, aside from a single trip hundreds of miles away from the epicenter of the migrant crisis,” he wrote.
In a statement presented by Nashville’s WKRN, Ogles wrote:
Joe Biden hasn’t just failed the American people with his abysmal excuse for “leadership” – he’s violated his sworn oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. Joe Biden has repeatedly abused his position of power, both as vice president and president, to cover up his illicit family business dealings and exploitation of taxpayer resources. The American people know they can’t depend on the so-called “Department of Justice” to investigate the Biden family’s corruption, and so it’s up to the U.S. Congress to hold him accountable once and for all. Joe Biden is a disgrace to the Oval Office and should be stripped of his position and held responsible for his high crimes against the United States. His accomplice, Vice President Kamala Harris, has demonstrated her extraordinary incompetence time and again. She has allowed the land invasion at our southern border to continue unchecked, threatening the livelihoods of millions and the lives of thousands who have been murdered at the hands of illegal aliens and died from illicit fentanyl.
WKRN shared that “only a small minority of House Republicans” supported the articles of impeachment.
The next step in the impeachment process is a vote to be held on the House floor. If the House concurs, the Senate will hold a trial. A two-thirds majority vote of the Senate is required to convict.
