The Qur’an (or Koran), the sacred text of Islam, does not prohibit homosexual activity, a “gay Imam” told a United Nations panel at the UN headquarters in New York on April 4.
The Old Testament of the Holy Bible does not condemn sodomy, but teaches that everybody needs a relationship with God that is “unlimited and boundary-less,” a leader of Jewish Queer Youth told participants at the same UN event.
The UN panel also heard from a Hindu scholar, an Episcopal priest/homosexual activist, and a Unitarian Universalist minister, all of whom claimed that the sacred texts of their religions actually approved, rather than condemned, homosexual and lesbian relationships.
The UN panel’s proceedings were first reported on by Wendy Wright, who attended the program for the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM). The C-FAM report on the event states:
After considering several religions, Sid Thompson changed his name to Daayiee Abdullah and converted to Islam at 30. He adopted the title Imam after developing the group Muslim Gay Men to dispute that the Qur’an rejects homosexuality. Now he performs religious ceremonies including same-sex weddings and wants to start a mosque for homosexuals.
When asked how he can be Muslim and homosexual, he says Islamic prohibitions are based on myths. They were teaching tools, created to regulate society, that “supersede for humankind what the actual divine book says.”
With this approach, Sodom and Gomorrah became for him a “story about rape, not about homosexual sexual acts.”
Abdullah spoke last week on a panel at UN headquarters on “Being gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender in religious communities.” As UN agencies court religious leaders, the speakers presented a way to reinterpret religions to fit their interests. The Unitarian Universalists UN Office with the government of Israel organized the event to validate religious community, but reject rules on sexual activity. A handful of UN delegates joined the roomful of activists where speakers replaced Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu teachings on sexual behaviors with homosexual-affirming revisions.
A video of the entire UN panel program has been uploaded onto the UN’s Web TV page and may be viewed here.
Imam Daayiee Abdullah (aka Sid Thompson) has been a homosexual activist for many years and is the lavender lobby’s favorite (perhaps only) Muslim imam who openly endorses, promotes, and personally practices homosexuality. This has won him admiring profiles in the “gay” press and, as to be expected, MSM vehicles such as the Huffington Post and New York Times.
The UN panel program last week is part of a major UN lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) promotion that has received a major political and economic boost from the Obama administration. In 2011, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton journeyed to Geneva, Switzerland, to speak before the UN’s Human Rights Commission. She denounced all legal prohibitions against homosexual behavior, closely associating such “discrimination” with beating and murdering of LGBT persons.
Clinton announced the establishment of the Global Equality Fund, with a start-up slush fund of $3 million to support groups working for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights worldwide.
The U.S. State Department’s website on the new global homo-promo effort states:
The Global Equality Fund was launched in December 2011 to support programs that advance the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons around the world. The Fund is a collaborative effort at the State Department, bridging multiple offices with the objective of empowering LGBT persons to live freely and without discrimination.
