Trump Forming Plans To Close Border; Leftist Media Spin It as Politics

President Trump appears ready to close the American border to the long train of unemployed “migrants” chugging north through Mexico.

He is considering a plan to shut down the border, and the Pentagon will deploy an additional 800 active duty troops there. About 2,100 National Guardsmen are there now. Half of them are unarmed.

Unsurprisingly, the leftist anti-Trump media depicted the president as playing to his deplorable supporters just 11 days before the midterm elections.

Whatever the reason for Trump’s move, the “caravan” is what it is: a massive invasion force that the American fifth column would use to further weaken our borders, erase American sovereignty, and import thousands of new Democratic voters.

The Order
As The New American reported yesterday, Title 8, Chapter 12 of the U.S. Code provides Trump’s authority to close the border:

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

The Washington Post reported that the draft of the proposal uses “Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to declare certain migrants ineligible for asylum because it ‘would be contrary to the national interest’ and ‘detrimental to the interests of the United States.’”

That was same authority Trump used, the Post and TNA reported, when he imposed the misnamed “Muslim ban” that restricted travel to the United States from named countries. The Supreme Court upheld that order.

As well, the Post reported, the plan “is not yet finalized and is one of several measures under consideration.” Officials told the leftist newspaper that “no decisions have been made” and “everything is on the table.” The administration does not want to “forecast” to smugglers its plans to protect the border.

Trump did forecast one thing. He doesn’t want the horde of unemployed illegal aliens entering the country. Tweeted Trump:

Happily, the Post reported, the caravan is still 900 miles and several weeks away from the U.S. border.

Even better, “Mexican authorities said the number of migrants has dwindled rapidly, from an estimate of 7,200 by the United Nations early in the week to 3,630 on Wednesday. The Mexican government said it had processed 1,700 asylum claims.”

The Vagabond Train numbered 14,000 just a few days ago.

The 800 active-duty troops, CNN reported, will not use lethal force to stop the horde if it tried to push through the border as it did in Guatemala and Mexico. “Instead they are expected to provide fencing, wall materials and other technical support at several key points along the border.”

The troops “will also provide tents and medical care for border authorities…. The troops retain the right of self-defense, but border patrol officers will still be the ones physically stopping illegal migration, the officials said.

Leftist Media Claims
Not surprisingly, the leftist media put the worst possible spin on the plan.

Reporting that Trump is “fixated” on the migrants, the Post opined that “Trump has seized on the migrant caravan as a vehicle for his own campaign messaging, depicting the Central American families as dangerous criminals and Democrats as their enablers.”

“The effort would be the starkest indication yet of Mr. Trump’s election-season push to play to his anti-immigrant base as his party fights to keep control of Congress,” the New York Times hysterically claimed.

Opined Politico, the plans “follow the playbook of Trump’s most sensational immigration moves and test the bounds of public approval and legality…. Trump has fumed publicly and privately in recent days about a caravan of migrants traveling north through Mexico and challenged aides to find a solution.”

As well, “the intense focus on immigration comes less than two weeks before the midterm elections. Democrats are favored to regain control of the House, but Republicans hope to retain competitive seats by digging in on a core issue.”
