Representative Rashida Tlaib, the lefist Muslim who represents Michigan’s 13th district, is using the fatal, accidental shooting of Daunte Wright in Minneapolis to say police and prisons must be abolished. Cops, she suggested on Twitter, are sanctioned murderers.
Tlaib’s deranged tweet about the shooting isn’t her first. But it might be one of the more dangerous, given that it comes from an elected official, and plays into the false narrative that cops stopped Wright in his car for no reason, then murdered him without provocation.
Neither is true, as Wright’s court records and body-camera footage of the shooting show.
The Tweet
“It wasn’t an accident,” Tlaib, an angry Palestinian nationalist, raged on Twitter: “Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist.”
But that’s not all. Policing is tantamount to “murder,” she wrote:
Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government funded murder.
No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed.
Meanwhile, even Fox News is pushing the narrative that cops really had no reason to stop Wright
The network uncritically reported the claims of Wright’s mother.
“Katie Wright said her son called her as he was supposedly getting pulled over for having air fresheners hanging in his rear-view mirror — an offense in Minnesota,” Fox reported:
“All he did was have air fresheners in the car, and they told him to get out of the car,” Wright said. During the call, she said she heard scuffling and then someone saying “Daunte, don’t run” before the call ended. When she called back, her son’s girlfriend answered and said he had been shot.
In fact, as the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported, police did not stop Wright for “air fresheners.”

During a news conference, Police Chief Tim Gannon said police stopped Wright because his tags were expired, and then found out he was wanted on an outstanding warrant, the newspaper reported:
According to Hennepin County District Court records, a warrant was issued April 2 for Wright after he failed to make his first court appearance on a case filed in March of carrying a pistol without a permit, a gross misdemeanor, and fleeing police, a misdemeanor. It’s unclear whether Wright knew he had a court hearing, as he was charged by summons.
Minnesota court records shows that a Daunte Demetrius Wright has two misdemeanor convictions for petty crimes.

That aside, body-camera footage clearly shows what occurred. As with many cases in which police shoot a wanted man, Wright resisted officers as they tried to handcuff him, then tried to flee.
“I’ll tase you!” Officer Kimberly Potter shouted. “I’ll tase you!”
“Taser, Taser, Taser,” she shouted again, before she pulled the trigger on her firearm.
“Holy sh*t,” she said moments later. “I just shot him.”
“As I watched the video and listened to the officer’s commands, it is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet,” Gannon said:
This appears to me, from what I viewed and the officer’s reaction and distress immediately after, that this was an accidental discharge that resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Wright.
Already, the Star-Tribune reported, prosecutors plan to file charges against Potter despite the footage, which clearly shows an accidental shooting, and that Wright resisted arrest.
Tlaib’s Radical Statements
None of that matters to Tlaib, of course, who sees a chance to push unrest and hatred of police.
Yesterday’s irresponsible Twitter rant, which could poison potential jurors, isn’t her first.
In 2019, after two anti-Semitic black supremacists murdered a New Jersey cop, then drove to a Jewish deli and murdered three people there, Tlaib tweeted the usual anti-white smear. She deleted it when the murderers’ identities were disclosed.
“This is heart-breaking,” she wrote. “White supremacy kills.”
As well, Tlaib is tight as a tick with anti-American, Islamic terror advocates such as Linda Sarsour. So radical is Sarsour that the Women’s March booted her from its board. But neither Sarsour nor her terror connections worried Tlaib when she was running for office.
Discover the Networks reported that Sarsour campaigned door-to-door with Tlaib in August 2018. “Tlaib had raised more than $30,000 from Islamists” connected to the Muslim American Society, the Muslim Public Affairs Council, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
In 2006, Tlaib wrote a column for Final Call, the newspaper of Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.
