“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain,” the fearsome electronic image of the Wizard of Oz bellowed at Dorothy. That command, of course, was aimed at directing her attention away from the real “wizard,” who was pulling the levers behind the curtain. Something similar has occurred (again) regarding the recent World Government Summit. Yes, that is the official name of the event, an annual confab of high-powered movers and shakers: “the great and the good” of globalist affairs in national governments, the United Nations, NGOs, media, academia, philanthropy, and entertainment. Since 2013, the World Government Summit (WGS), a three-day event, has drawn dictators, presidents, prime ministers, kings, emirs, sheikhs, central bankers, Nobel laureates, movie stars, corporate CEOs, and more, to Dubai, the gleaming jewel of the United Arab Emirates.
More than 4,000 high-profile notables swarmed to this year’s WGS (February 10-12), among whom were actor Harrison Ford, International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde, UNICEF boss Henrietta Fore, UN General Assembly President Maria Espinoza, left-wing news maven Arianna Huffington, former Obama official and Big Brother advocate Cass Sunstein, left-wing economist and New York Times opinionator Paul Krugman, motivational guru Tony Robbins, New York University law professor Arthur R. Miller, and Columbia University professor and UN advisor Jeffrey Sachs. Opening the global affair was none other than Pope Francis, who blessed the conferees and their mission in a pre-recorded video message.
The WGS has become the desert version of the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) shindigs in Davos, Switzerland, featuring many of the same celebrities, moguls, and “public servant” VIPs, most of whom fly into the ultra-extravagant UAE on private jets (naturally) to lecture humanity on the need to “reduce, reuse, recycle” — all in the interest of reducing carbon footprints, of course. In fact, a keynote speaker at WSG 2019 was Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF, who presides over the Davos gatherings. His lecture this year to his esteemed World Government Summit confreres was “Globilisation 4.0.” These assembled worthies, whom the WSG describes as “world leaders, international organizations’ representatives, thinkers, and experts from over 150 countries,” weighed in on a host of heavy topics, as they discussed “shaping the future of the world.” Indeed, according to the WSG website, the organization sees itself as “a global platform dedicated to shaping the future of governments worldwide.” “Each year,” it says, “the Summit sets the agenda for the next generation of governments.”

With all the glitter, glamour, and glory on display, and with the momentous, world-affecting agenda they advocate, one might think that the star-studded WGS soirée would be a top news event, yes? But no, barely a word in the “mainstream” news, other than snippets that could pass for PR releases. Hmm. What’s happening here? Did the WGS folks forget to inform the world media organizations about the summit? Are those desert sheiks relying on incompetent Bedouin camel drivers to run their public relations department? Did Big Media not get the memo? No, no, and no, to the last three questions. Turns out Big Media did know all about the event. In fact, many of them were official partners of the conference. The WGS website lists CNN, Sky News, the New York Times, the Financial Times, Bloomberg, and CNBC among its “media partners.” And as noted above, Arianna Huffington, founder of the online Huffington Post and Thrive Global, was a featured speaker, as was CNN presenter Becky Anderson. Many of the other luminaries gracing the WGS stage are also regularly featured as “experts” on the establishment media news programs and talking-head news analysis shows.
However, chances are, unless you were reading The New American online, you probably saw or heard nary a word about this august gathering. Over the past several years, we have provided one of the few portholes regularly allowing inquiring minds worldwide to get a glimpse into this program of global engineers who are planning our future. On February 22, we published Alex Newman’s overview of WGS 2019 entitled “At ‘World Government Summit,’ Globalists Push UN Agenda 2030.” Aside from Newman’s incisive analysis, there was very scant reportage on this remarkable event. As his title suggests, a considerable focus of the summit was the promotion of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, more formally known as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN formally unveiled this master plan for humanity, comprised of 17 SDGs and 169 specific “targets,” in September 2015, with the publication of its manifesto entitled Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As to be expected, the globalist choir, including the supposed watchdogs of the Fourth Estate, generally greeted the proposed Agenda 2030/SDG program with hearty huzzahs and applause.No negative words for an agenda of global central planning and micromanagement by bureaucrats.No media protests against the fact that this scheme was confected by the UN with the help of blood-drenched communist and Islamist regimes, along with oppressive authoritarian governments and anti-freedom NGOs.

So it may be worthwhile to examine why this noteworthy event, the World Government Summit, was conspicuously downplayed and omitted from the news cycle by most of the major media.
Scheming in “Out-of-the-way Places and With Little Ado”
You see, we are supposed to “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.” While most organizations seek media attention to promote their goals and membership, the WGS and other similar elite gatherings have other things in mind. They are building an elite consensus, a critical mass of world “thought leaders,” and it would not do to stir up “berserker nativism” against their globalist plans before they are ready to spring it on the world as a fait accompli and present it as a universally approved agenda that is futile to oppose.
The “berserker nativism” remark comes from Michael Hirsh, a certified internationalist. Hirsh is a senior correspondent for Foreign Policy magazine, the leftist establishment journal launched by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (the “prestigious” think tank that can boast of Soviet agent Alger Hiss as one of its presidents — as well as a long list of subversives among its board members, staff, and scholars). He has also written for Newsweek, Politico, the Washington Post, and Foreign Affairs, and has been a frequent commentator on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, Fox News, The Young Turks, and other programs. Hirsh, like many of his Foreign Policy and Carnegie colleagues, as well as many other members of the elite media, is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the premier establishment brain trust promoting world government for the past century.
In a special issue of the international edition of Newsweek (edited by CFR member Fareed Zakaria) in 2001, Hirsh let it be known that he understood the necessity for his internationalist comrades to keep their plans largely under cover, away from the prying eyes of the great unwashed. According to Hirsh, “The internationalists were always hard at work in quiet places making plans for a more perfect global community.” “In the end,” he said, “the internationalists have always dominated national policy. Even so, they haven’t bragged about their globe-building for fear of reawakening the other half of the American psyche, our berserker nativism. And so they have always done it in the most out-of-the-way places and with little ado.”
Hirsh’s remarkable admission appeared in a “Special Davos Edition” of Newsweek for December 2001-February 2002, which was intended primarily for consumption by the elite attending the annual insider conclave at the World Economic Forum in Davos. His Newsweek revelation continued, noting the formation of the CFR, initially as a group known as the Inquiry, at the end of World War I:
In December 1917 the Inquiry, a group of eager reformers who included a young Walter Lippmann, secretly met in New York to draw up Wilson’s Fourteen Points [which proposed, among other things, the formation of the League of Nations, the first effort at world government]. In 1941, FDR concocted the Atlantic Charter in the mists off Newfoundland. The dense woods of New Hampshire gave birth to the Bretton Woods institutions — the IMF and World Bank — in 1944. And a year later the United Nations came to life at the secluded Georgetown estate of Dumbarton Oaks…. So what emerged took us more or less by surprise. We had built a global order without quite realizing it, bit by bit, era by era.
Is Hirsh appalled or even concerned by the historical facts showing that a Deep State coterie of internationalists has taken de facto control of our government and has been working furtively for decades to undermine America’s constitutional order and national sovereignty? Apparently not; in fact he emphatically endorses the treason. Indeed, he insists in his Newsweek piece, “We must now embrace the global community we ourselves built.” Is that not rich? “We ourselves?” Hirsh clearly implies that we, the American people, must now accept what the CFR “Wise Men” have created in our name. It’s for our own good and the good of the planet. And although we, the American people, may be taken “more or less by surprise” at the sudden appearance of the multitude of new international constraints on our sovereignty, it is certain that the CFR “we,” to whom Hirsh is also speaking, realize precisely the world state they have been building “bit by bit.”
The Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA), the CFR’s British sister organization, has likewise played an important role forging the evolving world state in “out-of-the-way places and with little ado.” In a 1931 address to select globalists in Copenhagen, Denmark, for example, the famous historian (and RIIA staff leader) Arnold J. Toynbee bitterly denounced national sovereignty as “the abomination of desolations.” He went on to say: “I will merely repeat that we are at present working, discreetly but with all our might, to wrest this mysterious political force called sovereignty out of the clutches of the local national states of our world. And all the time we are denying with our lips what we are doing with our hands.”
The Hirsh/Newsweek admission is not the only revelation of this sort from elitist insiders sympathetic to, and involved in, the globalist schemes for world government. In a September 21, 2013 article for Salon entitled “Elites’ Strange Plot to Take Over the World,” Matt Stoller writes about the now largely forgotten efforts of Clarence Streit and his fellow world federalists to create an Atlantic Union uniting North America and Western Europe under a trans-Atlantic government, a movement that flourished from the 1930s through the 1970s. “Though the proposal for Atlantic Union has been written out of liberal historical memory, there are echoes of this episode in right-wing rhetoric about One World Government,” notes Stoller. “The irony of this,” he remarks, “is that, as liberals gently chuckle at right-wing paranoia about what they perceive as an imagined plot to create a world government, it is the conservatives who have a more accurate read on history. There was a serious plan to get rid of American sovereignty in favor of a globalist movement, and the various institutions the right wing hates — the IMF, the World Bank, the U.N. — were seen as stepping stones to it.”
Stoller approvingly notes that the organized push for world government did not end; it merely morphed into newer shapes. “The institutional framework of a world government composed of Western European and American states remains far more potent than we like to imagine,” the Salon writer observes, citing free trade agreements under which “U.S. courts have been subordinated to international tribunals, which operate according to rules laid out either by the World Trade Organization,” or by other UN institutions.
“There are other deep links,” Stoller comments, such as the Basel banking accords of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), under which the Federal Reserve “became the central banker to the world.” In all areas, “the global elites push onward, regardless, towards a one world solution.” Yes, that is precisely what this magazine has been reporting — and substantiating with detailed evidence — for many years. The Hirsh and Stoller admissions are far from the only confirmations from the “horse’s mouth,” so to speak.
Admissions and Accusations
It would be difficult to name any individual of the past century who more epitomized the globalist establishment than banker David Rockefeller, a longtime leader of the CFR and the secretive Bilderberg Group, as well as founder of the Trilateral Commission, the Council of the Americas, and many other elite one-world organizations. Rockefeller, who died in 2017 at the age of 101, made a startling confession in Memoirs, his 2002 autobiography. He stated:
For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents such as my encounter with Castro to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure — one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.
Years earlier, at the 1991 Bilderberg Conference, Rockefeller commented off the record, in remarks that were meant only for the elite attendees:
We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries.
Yes, the Times, Post, CNN, NBC, and other denizens of the Fake News cabal have kept mum about this treasonous plot not only against the citizens of their own country, but against humanity. However, they have gone further than merely maintaining silence in opposition to their obligation to inform. They have provided a bodyguard of lies, denying the world-government schemes of their globalist comrades and labeling as “tin-foil hat” kooks and paranoid “conspiracy theorists” anyone who dares to speak truth to power on this issue.
One measure of the effectiveness of their propaganda is that the mere mention of world government, the New World Order, Agenda 21/Agenda 2030, or dozens of other related subjects is enough to put one beyond the pale, triggering eye-rolls, sneers, and exasperated sighs from those who have been conditioned to believe such things don’t even exist, or can be explained benignly.
Fareed Zakaria, for instance, spoofs conspiracy theory on his CNN program Fareed Zakaria GPS and in his Washington Post columns. He is a member and director of the CFR and an attendee at Bilderberg. In his essay “Why do we embrace conspiracy theories?” he says that Bilderberg meetings are boring and banal, and he has “been disappointed and relieved to find they were pretty much like the world on the outside.”
However, in his book Superclass: The Global Power Elite and the World They Are Making, David Rothkopf (CFR) posits that about 7,000 individuals (CEOs, bankers, political brahmins, NGO/IGO chiefs, media mandarins, etc.) basically run the world and set the global agenda. He offers some criticism of certain abuses of power by the Power Elite (of which he is a member), but, in general, celebrates their enlightened leadership, which increasingly transcends and eclipses national sovereignty. Rothkopf, a protégé of Henry Kis-singer and a former Obama administration official, is a paid lobbyist/media consultant ($50,000 per month) for the United Arab Emirates, which hosts the World Government Summits, where Rothkopf’s Superclass pals can scheme global schemes in “out-of-the-way places and with little ado.”
