D. Michael DeRidder

On May 7, 2025, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) introduced H.R. 3245, the American Privacy Restoration Act, to repeal the Patriot Act and restore Fourth Amendment protections.

H.R. 3245, a straightforward, one-page bill, would repeal the Patriot Act in its entirety, restoring each provision of law it amended to its state as of October 25, 2001, before the act’s passage.

In a press release, Luna summarized the Patriot Act’s erosion of U.S. citizens’ constitutionally protected rights: “For over two decades, rogue actors within our U.S. intelligence agencies have used the Patriot Act to create the most sophisticated, unaccountable surveillance apparatus in the Western world. My legislation will strip the deep state of these tools and protect every American’s fourth amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizures.”
