If you are told a book is about politics, you might respond that you don’t need stale baloney disguised as food for thought; when hearing that a volume is an autobiography, most readers don’t anticipate learning a lot that is bad about the writer except his memory.
Thus, when it turns out that the specific book in question does indeed have an autobiographical, political bent, it is understandable that it might not arouse a great deal of enthusiasm.
