The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) released a statement announcing one employee dead and 22 injured by an Israeli strike on a food distribution center earlier today.

In the official UNRWA statement, Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini wrote:

Today’s attack on one of the very few remaining UNRWA distribution centres in the Gaza Strip comes as food supplies are running out, hunger is widespread and, in some areas, turning into famine. Every day, we share the coordinates of all our facilities across the Gaza Strip with parties to the conflict. The Israeli Army received the coordinates including of this facility yesterday.

Director of Communications for the UNRWA Juliette Touma told BBC news, “What we do know is that the Israeli forces have hit one of our largest warehouses in southern Gaza, and it’s also used as a food distribution center, and at least one colleague has been killed, and 22 others were injured.”

The UNRWA stated on X, “At least one @UNRWA staff member was killed and another 22 were injured when Israeli Forces hit a food distribution centre in the eastern part of #Rafah south of the📍#GazaStrip”
