University of Kansas (KU) lecturer Dr. Phillip W. Lowcock, director of international student-athlete support (WTN) for Kansas Athletics and health sport & exercise science lecturer, called for political violence against voters who allegedly are choosing not to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris based on her gender. Lowcock, who instructs a class “taken by a majority of freshman student-athletes,” stated during a lecture earlier this semester:
Uh, it’s what frustrates me, there are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don’t think females are smart enough to be president. We can line all those guys up and shoot them, they clearly don’t understand the way the world works. Did I say that? Scratch that from the recording, I don’t want the Deans hearing that I said that.
KU Director for News and Media Relations Erinn Barcomb-Peterson responded to a request for comment from The New American, stating Lowcock was placed on administrative leave:
We are aware of the video, which was recorded during a class earlier this semester. The instructor is being placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation. The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation. His intent was to emphasize his advocacy for women’s rights and equality, and he recognizes he did a very poor job of doing so. The university has an established process for situations like this and will follow that process.
Lowcock allegedly has a history of making inappropriate statements during lectures, with a former student stating in a March 1, 2024 review on Rate My Professors:
His class was extremely easy and all of the assignments could be done remotely however he made class very uncomfortable sometimes with making sexual jokes even when it wasn’t related to the topic
Following the news of his remarks, KU removed Lowcock’s profile from the athletics website, and deleted multiple posts on X featuring Lowcock:
