The U.S. embassy in Moscow issued a security alert yesterday, warning of imminent extremist plans to commit terror attacks. The warning recommends that U.S. citizens in Russia avoid crowds, monitor local media, and be aware of their surroundings.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that an Islamic State plot to target a synagogue in Moscow was prevented, stating, “On the territory of the Kaluga Region, a stop was put to the activity of Wilayat Khorasan, a cell of the Afghan branch of the international terrorist organization Islamic State, which is banned in Russia, whose members were planning to commit a terrorist act against one of the Jewish religious institutions in Moscow.”
