Russia announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to the assassination of Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was chief of Russia’s nuclear, biological, and chemical defense forces. The suspect claims he was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), which provided the improvised explosive device (IED) used in the attack, in exchange for $100,000 and residency in a European country.

According to Russian media outlet Baza News, the suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Akhmad Kurbanov, from Uzbekistan. In a video released on Telegram by Baza News, Kurbanov explains how he carried out the bombing that killed Kirillov.

In response to the assassination of Kirillov, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, stated:

This is the general line of Western countries to always cover for the Kiev regime, regardless of what it does, what crimes it commits…. Condemnation has never really been heard in the more than 24 hours since this terrorist act.
