Russian Missile Strike on Military Institute Kills 50

Russia targeted a military institute in the city of Ukrainian city of Poltava. Reuters reports at least 50 people have been killed, with 271 wounded. In response to the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Russia would face retaliation for the strike, stating on X:

The Russian scum will surely pay for this strike. We continue to urge everyone in the world who has the power to stop this terror: Ukraine needs air defense systems and missiles now, not sitting in storage. Long-range strikes that can protect us from Russian terror are needed now, not later. Every day of delay, unfortunately, means more lost lives. Eternal memory to all those whose lives were taken by Russia.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry claimed the Russian attack on the military institute was an attack on one of Poltava’s “educational institutions,” stating on X:

Zelensky’s wife, Olena Zelenska, also described the military institute as a “educational institution,” stating on X:

My deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the russian missile attack on Poltava. This is a shocking tragedy for the whole Ukraine. The enemy hit an educational institution and a hospital. We already know about 47 dead and 206 wounded. Russia is taking away our most valuable thing — lives. We will never forget this. Eternal memory.
