Republican members of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees are preparing a resolution to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress. Hunter was subpoenaed in November by House Republicans for a December 13, 2023 deposition. He appeared at the U.S. Capitol and made a public statement that he would not comply with the subpoenas, and chose to not attend the closed-door deposition.
In a press release by the House Oversight Committee, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) stated, “Hunter Biden’s willful refusal to comply with our subpoenas constitutes contempt of Congress and warrants referral to the appropriate United States Attorney’s Office for prosecution. We will not provide him with special treatment because of his last name.”
The House Oversight Committee announced it will hold a markup on January 10 at 10:00 a.m. to consider legislation holding Biden in contempt of Congress.
