Former President Donald Trump has agreed to participate in three debates with Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris and Trump have both agreed to participate in an ABC presidential debate on September 10, with Harris responding to Trump’s confirmation of the debate, stating on X, “I hear that Donald Trump has finally committed to debating me on September 10. I look forward to it.”
The three debates Trump agreed to participate in are scheduled for September 4, September 10, and September 25, with Harris declining the invitation to participate in the September 4 Fox News debate. Last week Trump said he agreed to debate Harris on Fox News, stating on Truth Social:
I have agreed with FoxNews to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th. The Debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant, and I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest. The FoxNews Debate will be held in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a site in an area to be determined. The Moderators of the Debate will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, and the Rules will be similar to the Rules of my Debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his Party – BUT WITH A FULL ARENA AUDIENCE!….
Trump’s confirmation of the September 10 debate comes after Harris accused Trump of backing out of an agreement to participate in the September 10 debate, despite that agreement having been between Trump and President Biden. Harris stated on X, “Trump agreed on a September 10th debate. It now appears he’s backpedaling. Voters deserve to see the split screen that exists on a debate stage. I’m ready. So let’s go.”
The September 10 debate was scheduled before Democrats pressured Biden into withdrawing from the 2024 presidential election following the June 27 debate on CNN, which was the earliest in presidential election history. Before 2024, the earliest debate was September 21, during the 1980 presidential election.
Biden’s poor performance in that debate resulted in the downward spiral ending his campaign, and reports suggest the scheduling of the debate in June was orchestrated to remove Biden from the Democratic ticket prior to the 2024 Democratic National Convention scheduled August 19 to 22.
