In a court filing earlier today, U.S. prosecutors with the Department of Justice released a letter written by Ryan Routh, the suspect in the attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump on September 15. The prosecutors said a witness contacted law enforcement to report Routh had dropped off a box containing the letter and other items before the assassination attempt.
In the letter addressed “Dear World,” Routh admitted he attempted to assassinate Trump:
This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I am so sorry I failed you…. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.
Prosecutors also explained in the filing the events that led to the United States Secret Service (USSS) agent preventing Routh’s attempt. The agent, who was in a golf cart clearing the area along the perimeter near the 6th hole, observed Routh with an SKS semiautomatic rifle near the fence.
