House Democrats are holding closed-door caucus meetings this morning, where will likely discuss President Biden’s candidacy for reelection, and Democratic strategy going forward.

Yesterday, Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.) joined with other Democrats calling for Biden to drop out of the presidential race, stating on X, “I’m calling on President Biden to step down. If President Biden continues his campaign, it would be a mistake. President Biden has shown strong leadership, but it’s clear he is no longer the best candidate to meet the demands of the office.”

In response to declining support among Democrats, Biden shared a letter to Capitol Hill Democrats on X, “Now that you have returned from the July 4th recess, I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.”

Furthermore, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told reporters she spoke with Biden, and stated he will remain the nominee: “The matter is closed, he had reiterated that this morning, he has reiterated that to the public. Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race and I support him.”
