A recent CBS News/YouGov poll asked voters three questions concerning the ongoing border crisis, and asked voters if they supported a national deportation program:
Would you favor or oppose the U.S. government starting a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S. illegally?
Fifty-three percent of Hispanics polled support the deportation of immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally. With white and black registered voters included, the poll shows that 62 percent favor a national-deportation program. The poll also asked registered voters if they would support the establishment of “large detention centers,” asking:
If the U.S. government did try to deport those immigrants, would you favor or oppose the government establishing large detention centers, where people would be sent and held, while the government determined whether or not they should be deported?
Hispanics supported creating government detention centers at 50 percent — higher than whites at 49 percent and blacks at 43 percent. The poll also asked if they supported local law enforcement identifying non-citizens living in the United States illegally, asking:
If the U.S. government did try to deport those immigrants, would you favor or oppose local police and law enforcement trying to identify which people were U.S. citizens, and which were undocumented immigrants?
Fifty-seven percent of Hispanics supported local law enforcement working with a national deportation program, with whites supporting at 65 percent and blacks at 54 percent.
