President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris announced a new executive order on firearms today. The order establishes a “Emerging Firearms Threats Task Force” to assess machinegun conversion devices, firearms constructed using 3D-printing technology, and firearms without serial numbers.
The fact sheet released by Biden and Harris summarized changes to background checks for firearm purchases — “Improving the Gun Background Check System” through “enhancing” background checks for individuals under age 21. The executive order also will evaluate grant programs to increase funding for background checks on individuals convicted of domestic violence, and “maximizing” existing “red flag” laws by requesting mental-health records from state and local law-enforcement agencies.
Gun Owners of America responded to the executive order’s effect on the firearm background check system, stating on X:

Vice President of the National Foundation for Gun Rights Hannah Hill responded to the order, questioning Biden and Harris’ repeated attempts to enact unconstitutional policy, stating on X:
How many times do Biden/Harris have to LOSE before they learn that they don’t get to twist and distort the federal machine gun statute?? They’ve already lost on bump stocks, they’re losing on FRTs, and they’ve lost on Chevron deference. And yet we get THIS.
