Air National Guardsman Accepts 16-year Prison Sentence

Former Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira pleaded guilty to six counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information. According to Washington Post reporter Shane Harris, Teixeira requested an 11-year sentence, and prosecutors are requesting 200 months and a $50,000 fine. Teixeira could have faced a maximum 60-year sentence if convicted on all six courts.

Teixiera enlisted in the Air National Guard in 2019, and was issued top-secret security clearance in 2021, and worked as a cyber transport systems journeyman.

Teixiera was arrested in April 2023 after he began sharing classified documents in January 2022, and released intelligence documents on the war in Ukraine on the gaming application Discord.
