The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reports that 24 soldiers were killed yesterday, the largest number of IDF deaths in a single day since the start of the war in Gaza.
An explosion killed 21 soldiers when mines reportedly being placed by the IDF to demolish two buildings were detonated by a missile fired at an Israeli tank. Three IDF soldiers were killed in a separate attack earlier in the day.
IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated, “They fell in battle during a mission aimed at returning the residents to their homes safely. We grieve the loss, we will learn the lessons”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated he would not be deterred by the loss, saying on X, “We bow our heads to the memory of our fallen, yet we do not for a moment stop fighting to achieve absolute victory.”
Palestinian health authorities report civilian deaths in Gaza have surpassed 25,000, and more than 62,000 have been wounded since October 7. As the fighting escalates in southern Gaza, the IDF has begun blockading hospitals in southern Gaza. The Palestine Red Crescent is reporting Israeli drones are targeting civilians around Al-Amal hospital, and stated ambulance teams are facing significant challenges transporting casualties.
