Following what authorities allege is an Afghan asylee’s murder of a National Guardsman and wounding of another, late yesterday, President Trump announced that he is pausing immigration from Third World nations.
In his Truth Social post declaration, Trump broadly denounced the immigration of dangerous foreigners, notably Somalians. But the attack on the two guardsmen in Washington, D.C., provoked Trump’s reaction.
U.S. officials are reviewing Green-Card holders and have stopped “all immigration requests” from Afghans, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced.
As well, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed that the Afghan suspect was one of the tens of thousands of Afghans permitted to enter the country unvetted on President Joe Biden’s orders.
Murder in D.C.
Authorities allege that Rahmanullah Lakanwal murdered West Virginia Army guardsman Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and critically wounded Air Force guardsman Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24. Location: Farragut Square, a six-minute walk from the White House.
The New York Times revealed that Lakanwal worked with the “Zero Unit,” a paramilitary outfit that worked with the CIA in Afghanistan.
“That connection appears to have given Mr. Lakanwal a ticket out of Afghanistan when the Taliban toppled the American-backed government in 2021, allowing him to flee with his wife and children,” the newspaper reported:
They began a new life in Bellingham, Wash., where he worked as a delivery driver and his children played soccer in the hallways of their modest apartment complex.
But those Zero Units, the Times continued, citing Human Rights Watch, were really death squads “which were formally part of the Afghan intelligence service but operated outside the usual chain of command, were largely recruited, trained, equipped and overseen by the C.I.A..”
On X, Noem wrote that Lakanwal landed in the U.S. like so many Afghans did: without proper vetting.
“The suspect who shot our brave National Guardsmen is an Afghan national who was one of the many unvetted, mass paroled into the United States under Operation Allies Welcome on September 8, 2021, under the Biden Administration,” she wrote.
No More Third Worlders
USCIS announced on X that “processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols.”
The chief of the agency, Joseph Edlow, announced that all Green-Card holders from some countries are under investigation:
At the direction of @POTUS, I have directed a full scale, rigorous reexamination of every Green Card for every alien from every country of concern.
DHS spokesman Tricia McLaughlin said the probe targets those from 19 countries .
Trump went further in a late-Thanksgiving Night post.
“The official United States Foreign population stands at 53 million people (Census), most of which are on welfare, from failed nations, or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels,” he wrote:
They and their children are supported through massive payments from Patriotic American Citizens who, because of their beautiful hearts, do not want to openly complain or cause trouble in any way, shape, or form. They put up with what has happened to our Country, but it’s eating them alive to do so! A migrant earning $30,000 with a green card will get roughly $50,000 in yearly benefits for their family. The real migrant population is much higher. This refugee burden is the leading cause of social dysfunction in America, something that did not exist after World War II (Failed schools, high crime, urban decay, overcrowded hospitals, housing shortages, and large deficits, etc.). As an example, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once great State of Minnesota. Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for “prey” as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone.
Trump claimed that far-left Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar married her brother to commit immigration fraud. Thus did he “pause” Third World immigration, he wrote, “to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country, end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.”
Reverse migration is the only remedy, he wrote.
Afghan Refugees a Major Problem
Though the Times falsely implied that the horde of Afghans whom Biden imported aren’t a problem, the evidence about them is clear. They’re a major problem, as The New American repeatedly reported in 2021 when Biden OK’d the program to bring in more than 75,000 of them.
Biden not only imported Afghans who brought child brides with them, but also those who committed sex crimes against kids and beat their wives. A gang of Afghans attacked a woman service member at a refugee compound near Fort Bliss.
At the time, GOP Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri revealed Biden’s order to bring in as many Afghans as possible, no vetting needed. The order showed up in an email from Gregory Floyd, consul general at the embassy in Afghanistan.
“President Biden phoned Ambassador Wilson with the following directive about who to clear to board evacuation flights,” Floyd wrote.
The order laid out three priorities:
1. Anyone with a valid form of ID should be given permission to go on a plane if the person plausibly falls into the categories we will evacuate U.S. citizens and [legal permanent residents] plus their immediate families, [local embassy staff] plus their immediate families, those entitled to an [Special Immigrant Visa], and Afghans at risk.
2. Families including women and children should be allowed through and held to fill out planes.
3. Total inflow to the U.S. must exceed the number of seats available. Err on the side of excess.
This guidance provides clear discretion and direction to fill seats and to provide special consideration for women and children when we have seats. I expect that C17 flight volume will increase.

Lakanwal isn’t the first Afghan who worked with U.S. forces in Afghanistan authorities charged with a crime. In 2019, a federal grand jury indicted Mujeeb Rahman Saify on charges of smuggling Afghans into the United States.
Far-left Democrat Bill Kristol didn’t much care. When conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was murdered in September, complained about the flood of unvetted Afghans on his podcast, Kristol wrote the following over the video:
Almost every Afghan refugee will turn out to be so much better an American than Charlie Kirk.
