Far-left Seattle, Washington, has joined the growing list of cities that have vowed rebellion and insurrection to fight against mass deportations that are set to begin on Day 1 of the Trump administration.
Mayor Bruce Harrell has ordered all city departments to refuse to cooperate with the deportations. At minimum, the cities would break the federal law that forbids harboring illegal aliens.
But if the city goes further and attempts to interfere in the deportations the way that Denver will, officials risk arrest for inciting a rebellion or insurrection.
City to Immigrants: We Have Your Back
The Post Millennial (PM) reported the vow to fight Trump.
“Seattle is a sanctuary city, let me be clear, that is not going to change,” Democratic City Council member Maritza Rivera fumed on Monday. “Immigrant communities in the city of Seattle can rest assured that we have their back.”
The council met “in collaboration with the Seattle City Council, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, Human Services, and the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs … to discuss the uncertainties” about Trump’s forthcoming policies, PM reported:
[Trump’s plan] includes mass deportations, the elimination of sanctuary cities, and resuming border wall construction. During the meeting, city lawmakers and department officials examined local and state laws that are intended to safeguard the rights of undocumented migrants.
President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to pull federal funding to any city and state that has a “sanctuary” status, and Seattle said it’s prepared for a potential showdown with the next Trump White House. “We are not ignorant, we know things are coming, we just don’t know yet and the best thing that we can do is prepare and I feel confident we’re doing that,” angry leftist Rivera said.
Rivera is a carpetbagger from New York City and former spear carrier for Bill Clinton, serving as his White House “Hispanic liaison.”
Greg Wong, the deputy mayor, said much the same thing, PM reported.
“Employees were directed to immediately contact the Mayor’s Office, which would then contact the City Attorney’s Office ‘to understand whether or not there is sufficient judicial authority for ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] to access whatever the request is,’ said Wong,” the website explained.
Seattle is coordinating with other sanctuaries to fight Trump, Wong said, confessing that the city would join a major conspiracy to violate federal immigration laws.
We know that federal changes by their nature are federal. They’re going to be nationwide, and I think … a really important thing to keep in mind is that Seattle does not stand alone. We will be working with our partners at the state level … and other cities across the country that are similarly situated to make sure that we are coordinated in our response efforts. We’ve already begun many of those conversations.
Other “Partners”
At minimum Those “partners” will include Denver, Colorado; Boston, Massachusetts; and San Diego, California.
Before Seattle, San Diego County was the most recent locality to vow a fight against Trump. County supervisors voted to forbid the county from using funds to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Also, led by hate-Trump Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston’s Council recently voted 13-0 to “to protect” illegal aliens and Biden “migrants.” Wu promised to fight Trump “in every possible way.” And the Bay State’s governor, Maura Healey, warned that the state would use “every tool in the toolbox” to harbor illegals.
But far-left Denver Mayor Mike Johnston was the most emphatic of the insurrectionist city officials.
“More than us having DPD [Denver police] stationed at the county line to keep [federal forces] out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there,” Johnston told a website. “It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right? You’d have every one of those Highland moms who came out for the migrants. And you do not want to mess with them.”
If true, Denver cops would be in open rebellion and insurrection against the federal government
Homan’s Warnings
Incoming border czar Tom Homan has repeatedly warned state and local officials not to carry out such plans. They will, he vows, be arrested.
“[Wu] helps us or she gets the hell out of the way, because we’re going to do it.” Homan warned Boston’s renegade mayor:
There’s a clear line here, and they can’t cross that clear line. I will suggest she read Title 8, United States Code 1324 III, that says you can’t harbor or conceal an illegal alien from federal law enforcement officers. …
They can not cooperate, but there are certain laws in place that they can’t cross, and I hope she doesn’t cross it.
After Trump shellacked Vice President Kamala Harris on November 5, Homan repeated the warning.
“They need to educate themselves,” he told Fox News of the rebels without a clue:
They need to review this. Title 8, United States Code 1324 III. Read about that and don’t cross that line because it is a felony to harbor and conceal an illegal alien from ICE. Read the statute. Don’t cross that line.
Those arrests would be bad enough for such state and local officials. Worse though, would be the crime Johnston, city cops, and citizens would commit if they blocked federal agents from entering Denver.
They would violate 18 U.S. Code Section 2383:
Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
As The New American reported earlier, by violating that statute, Johnston would trigger the federalization of the National Guard. The Guard’s website explains:
To enforce federal authority, whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, assemblages, or rebellion make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State or Territory, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State.
State and locals officials must decide whether protecting illegal aliens is worth federal felony charges and possible prison time.
