The New York Times has finally decided that former former Vice President Joe Biden’s successful push to fire a prosecutor in Ukraine, who just happened to be investigating a company in which Biden’s son was a key player, might be newsworthy.
On Thursday, newspaper finally caught up to The Hill’s John Solomon, who reported on April 1 that the Ukrainians had reopened probe into the company, Burisma Holdings.
So the question is whether Biden (shown) acted to benefit his son.
The Times Report
As Solomon explained in The Hill when the Ukrainians reopened the probe, Biden bragged about strong-arming the country by withholding loan guarantees.
“I said, ‘You’re not getting the billion.’ I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,’” Biden recalled telling Poroshenko.
“Well, son of a b***h, he got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time,” Biden told the Council on Foreign Relations event, insisting that President Obama was in on the threat.
“Among those who had a stake in the outcome was Hunter Biden,” the Times reported, “who at the time was on the board of an energy company owned by a Ukrainian oligarch who had been in the sights of the fired prosecutor general.”
That company was Burisma.
Reported the Times:
But new details about Hunter Biden’s involvement, and a decision this year by the current Ukrainian prosecutor general to reverse himself and reopen an investigation into Burisma, have pushed the issue back into the spotlight just as the senior Mr. Biden is beginning his 2020 presidential campaign.
They show how Hunter Biden and his American business partners were part of a broad effort by Burisma to bring in well-connected Democrats during a period when the company was facing investigations backed not just by domestic Ukrainian forces but by officials in the Obama administration. Hunter Biden’s work for Burisma prompted concerns among State Department officials at the time that the connection could complicate Vice President Biden’s diplomacy in Ukraine, former officials said.
The Times reported that “no evidence has surfaced” that Biden senior tried to help his son by forcing Ukraine to fire the prosecutor, and “some of his former associates, moreover, said Mr. Biden never did anything to deter other Obama administration officials who were pushing for the United States to support criminal investigations by Ukrainian and British authorities — and potentially to start its own investigation — into Burisma.”
Of course,the Biden boys deny impropriety.
A spokesman for Biden’s campaign told the Times the presidential candidate deep-sixed the prosecutor “without any regard for how it would or would not impact any business interests of his son, a private citizen.”
That policy — meddling in a foreign country’s affairs with threats of financial harm — was part of “the United States’ foreign policy to root out corruption in Ukraine.”
Said the wealthy scion of the presidential candidate, “at no time have I discussed with my father the company’s business, or my board service, including my initial decision to join the board.”
Hunter Biden’s term on the company’s expired lasted month, the Times reported.
Incestuous Political Elites
The Times also disclosed how the offspring of America’s Deep State elites use the vast wealth and power of those elites to amass their own, which are of course unavailable to the average American, whose tax dollars created the elites’ wealth and cemented their power in the first place.
After Biden became Barack Hussein Obama’s No. 2, Hunter Biden “joined with Christopher Heinz, the stepson of John Kerry, then a senator, and Devon Archer, a Kerry family friend, to create a network of investment and consulting firms with variations of the name Rosemont Seneca. Mr. Kerry would go on to become secretary of state.”
The pair “pursued business with international entities that had a stake in American foreign policy decisions, sometimes in countries where connections implied political influence and protection,” the Times reported.
One of those companies was the target of the prosecutor, Burisma, which “paid $3.4 million to a company called Rosemont Seneca Bohai LLC from mid-April 2014, when Hunter Biden and Mr. Archer joined the board, to late 2015, according to the financial data provided by the Ukrainian deputy prosecutor.”
Rosemont Seneca Bohai, in turn, paid young Biden “as much as $50,000 per month in some months.”
