Suppression of EPA Report on Global Warming

His report was officially quashed, but Carlin released it anyway. His courage to reveal important information to the public, at the risk of his career and the expected forthcoming hatchet job by the Obama administration on his character, may be the greatest single act in history for protecting our Republic from legislation that would seriously undermine it.

What does the suppressed report say? It points out that the EPA has been relying on the science of others — primarily the IPCC and other “outside groups” — for the EPA’s information on global warming. This is contradictory to EPA policy, which requires an independent investigation of scientific claims. “If they (the outside groups) should be found to be incorrect at a later date, however, and EPA is found not to have made a really careful review of them before reaching its decisions on endangerment, it appears likely that it is EPA rather than these other groups that may be blamed for this error.”

What will no doubt become a poster for those who have been skeptical of the connection between CO2 and rising planetary temperatures is Figure 1-2 in the report that shows three models of UN temperature predictions zooming skyward, while the actual temperature as measured by surface thermometers and satellites is dropping. This at a time when CO2 is continuing to increase. Some of the indications made in the report that the “science is out of date” as regards conventional global-warming truisms are

  • By far the best single explanation for global temperature fluctuations is variations in the PDO/ENSO. (The Pacific Decadal Oscillations and the El Nino Southern Oscillation.)
  •   There appears to be a strong association between solar sunspots/irradiance and global temperature fluctuation.
  •   Changes in GHG (greenhouse gas) concentrations appear to have so little effect that it is difficult to find any effect in the satellite temperature record, which started in 1978.

The conclusions of the report make sense to most Americans, but will cause gritting and gnashing of teeth at the UN, in countries that are preparing to sell us “carbon credits” and take over our manufacturing, and in the Obama administration, which plans a takeover of U.S. energy resources. One conclusion of the report that would likely get a round of applause from Americans who like logic — especially those who don’t want to see their jobs go overseas as a result of high energy prices — is the following: “Given the downward trend in temperatures since 1998 (which some think will continue until at least 2030) there is no particular reason to rush into decision based on a scientific hypothesis that does not appear to explain most of the available data.”  (Parenthetical expression in the original.)

What would have been the effect on the vote in the House on climate legislation last Friday if this report had not been suppressed? A switch of only four votes would have defeated the bill. Which brings up another question. Who ordered it to be suppressed? A YouTube video quotes an e-mail from Al McGartland, an EPA official, as follows: “The time for such discussion of fundamental issues has passed for this round. The administrator and the administration has decided to move forward on endangerment, and your comments do not help the legal or policy case for this decision. I can only see one impact of your comments given where we are in the process, and that would be a very negative impact on our office.”

On the video Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) has announced an investigation to look into suppression of the memo by EPA officials and reminded us that he has said for over 10 years that Anthropogenic (human caused) Global Warming is the “probably the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.”

Carlin also stated: “My view is … there is not currently any reason to regulate carbon dioxide. Global temperatures are roughly where they were in the mid-20th century. They’re not going up. If anything they are going down.” Without a serious contradiction in this statement by Dr. Carlin, this revelation should end all talk of carbon footprints, CO2 emissions, cap and trade, and the entire global-warming lexicon. Thank you for the truth, Dr. Carlin.
