Rachael Rollins, the former U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts who resigned rather than face federal charges for misconduct while in office, has been rewarded for her bad behavior instead of going to jail. The Soros-backed attorney has landed a cushy job at taxpayer-supported Roxbury Community College in Roxbury Crossing, Massachusetts, making $96,000 a year ($8,000 a month) for what the Boston Herald calls “a part-time gig.” This makes her the highest paid half-time employee on the college’s payroll.
And reveals how tools of the Deep State are rewarded for their destructive work.
It also explains why she didn’t pay to renew her lawyer’s license. She wasn’t disbarred. She just didn’t need that license to land her new job.
It isn’t clear what her responsibilities are in her new position, but her history reveals a far-left progressive who was happy to inflict her disastrous ideologies onto those who voted for her as district attorney before Biden appointed her to higher office and then leave the mess behind for someone else to clean up.
Her position as U.S. Attorney for the State of Massachusetts lasted just 17 months. She ran on a platform of decriminalizing dozens of low-level crimes, in order, she said, to reduce pressure on the state’s prison system (which she said was racist) and to restore “justice” to the existing justice system. That system, until she arrived, thanks to Soros funding her successful campaign for district attorney, punished lawbreakers.
Under her new system, criminals guilty of shoplifting, drug possession and drug possession with intent to distribute, wanton or malicious destruction of private property, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, resisting arrest, trespassing, breaking and entering, and larceny (among others) either would not be charged or would get off with just a slap on the wrist.
This, of course, delighted those favoring the destruction of the justice system, including the two Massachusetts senators, Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren, who gave her a ringing endorsement prior to confirmation. In a joint statement, the two far-left Democrats said:
District Attorney Rollins is a great choice for U.S. Attorney, and we were proud to recommend her to the Biden administration. District Attorney Rollins is a national leader on transforming the criminal justice system and shifting away from an approach based on punishment and penalization to one that combats the root causes of injustice, whether it be poverty, substance use, or racial disparity.
She has prosecutorial experience and is dedicated and committed to advancing equal justice for all, and we are certain that she will be a tremendous U.S. Attorney. We will work to make sure she is confirmed as quickly as possible.
Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) fought her confirmation, and almost succeeded in derailing it. They forced the Senate to a 50-50 tie during her hearings, with Vice President Kamala Harris twice using her vote to break deadlocks.
The far-left Los Angeles Times called Rollins “among President Biden’s smartest appointments,” with the White House joining in the chorus of praise. It said she and other equally odious appointments were chosen “for their devotion to enforcing the law, their professionalism, their experience and credentials in this field, their dedication to pursuing equal justice for all, and their commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice.”
It was the DOJ’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz who first began to suspect Rollins’ corruption, opening an investigation just months after she assumed office. That was followed by a separate investigation by Henry Kerner, serving as U.S. Special Counsel.
The two issued reports simultaneously back in May 2023, totaling more than 250 pages detailing the misconduct by Rollins.
Wrote Horowitz:
We found Rollins’s conduct described throughout this report violated federal regulations, numerous DOJ policies, her Ethics Agreement, and applicable law, and fell far short of the standards of professionalism and judgment that the Department should expect of any employee, much less a U.S. Attorney.
Wrote Kerner:
Ms. Rollins’s conduct in leaking non‐public DOJ information constitutes an extraordinary abuse of her authority and threatens to erode public confidence in the integrity of federal law enforcement actions.
Upon learning of their pet’s misconduct, Massachusetts’ Senators Markey and Warren immediately sought to put distance between them and her:
These findings are deeply troubling, and we agree with Rollins’s decision to resign. It’s powerfully important that public officials follow high ethical standards and the Justice Department’s work on behalf of Massachusetts will continue uninterrupted.
The White House remained silent.
This is how the Left rewards its own.
