The cultural Marxists have now declared war on the Founding Fathers as race-hustling CNN personality Angela Rye (shown) called for all statues of George Washington an Thomas Jefferson to be taken down on Thursday.
Rye, an attorney and the founder of IMPACT Strategies, a left-wing political advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., made the remarks on CNN Thursday. She was responding to Daily Beast editor John Avlon’s contention that George Washington focused his life on trying to unite the nation.
“We have to get to the heart of the problem here. The heart is the way many of us were taught American history. American history is not all glorious. I love John [Avlon] to death, but I couldn’t disagree more about George Washington. George Washington was a slave owner. We need to call slave owners out for what they are. Whether we think they were protecting American freedom or not, he wasn’t protecting my freedoms. I wasn’t someone — my ancestors weren’t deemed human beings. To me, I don’t care if it’s a George Washington statue or Thomas Jefferson, they all need to come down,” Rye complained.
When Avlon accused her of feeding into the very narrative that will get President Trump reelected, Rye doubled down: “I’m not feeding into white supremacy. I’m calling out white supremacy for what it is. And sometimes what it is, John, are blind spots. Sometimes what it is, is not acknowledging this country was built on a very violent past that resulted in death and the rape and the killing of my ancestors. I’m not going to allow us to say it’s okay for Robert E. Lee and not a George Washington. We need to call it what it is. I don’t say they don’t deserve to be taught about. We definitely need to learn about it so we don’t repeat it. We are close to repeating it right now. I’m not giving any deference to George Washington or Robert E. Lee.”
“Close to repeating it now” seems like a stretch. In what possible way are we close to “repeating” the institution of slavery? Or are we just close to repeating the Civil War? Rye’s statement about the statues of Washington and Jefferson comes just one day after referring to Donald Trump as “the president of the Confederate states of America.”
After the vacuous Chris Cuomo explained why he increasingly refers to the president as “Trump” instead of as “the president,” — Cuomo believes that he’s “insulating” the office from the actions of the man — Rye came back with another statement slamming Trump as a racist.
“The reality of it is, is Donald Trump in so many ways is the President of the Confederate States of America, he really is,” Rye said. “He speaks regularly to that base, he pumps hatred onto Twitter feeds like nobody’s business. He is addicted to sending those treacherous signals over and over again.”
“Opposing the things that symbolically say that it’s okay to believe that black people are inferior, he doesn’t understand how oppressive the Confederate flag is, how oppressive the Confederate statues are,” Rye complained.
Rye and others like her exemplify the term “slippery slope.” In two weeks, we’ve gone from most of America agreeing that the actions of former police officer Derek Chavin in the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis were wrong to the ridiculous notion that statues of our Founding Fathers need to be taken down to prevent “hurt feelings” among those who don’t know or understand the history they represent.
A couple of points: First, George Washington freed his slaves upon his death. Second, apparently unbeknownst to Rye, our Founding Fathers separated from England, which was a slave-holding country, and created a government that made it not only possible, but likely, that the slaves would be freed. Also, at the time of our country’s founding, slavery was a worldwide phenomena, with people of every race enslaved — even whites from England and Ireland became slaves. It’s estimated that more than 50,000 English prisoners were sent to the United States, many of whom went into involuntary servitude, mainly as indentured servants. Others were sent to the Caribbean and never freed. Slavery is still common in much of the world, especially Africa, and Africans often ended up in slavery because they were captured and sold by other Africans. Third, Rye is judging those in the past from the standards of today, yet not equally across the board: By the standards of today, most parents in pasttimes, including black parents, were guilty of child abuse for making their kids work too much, and since Democrats were the party of racism for most of America’s history, she should also be erasing the past of every Democrat ever elected, but she is not.
People such as Rye who throw the term “racist” around so freely would do well to study history and find out what the word truly means. They should actually study the Jim Crow laws of the Democrat South and find out what true suffering was, instead of feigning offense at statues of our nation’s Founding Fathers. Maybe then they would stop cheapening the term “racist” by throwing it around so cavalierly in support of something as worthless as a political agenda.
