Half-naked female protesters attending a mammoth three-day event (October 14-16) of radical feminists in Argentina, attacked a Catholic cathedral with stones, paint balloons, tampons, feces — and a firebomb, on Sunday, October 15. The violent attack took place in the city of Resistencia, in the northeastern province of Chaco, where the National Encounter of Women (Encuentro Nacional de Mujeres, ENM) drew an estimated 40,000 “ultra-feminists,” prostitutes, and militant lesbians. A mob of thousands from the feminist gathering marched through the city streets to the cathedral, vandalizing schools, businesses, monuments, and public buildings along the way. The militant man haters spray-painted graffiti with slogans such as “Kill your father, your boyfriend, and your brother,” “Burn the pope,” “Abuser priests,” “Abort males,” “Death to males,” and “Kill your rapist,” according to a report of the event from LifeSiteNews.
Employing tactics that increasingly are becoming commonplace throughout the world, many of the most violent women demonstrators went topless, in what they called a “boob protest,” while others were masked and clad in the “Black Block” attire of Antifa (“Anti-fascist”) anarchists. In an Argentine news video of the event, masked participants can be seen physically assaulting two men who peacefully interpose their bodies to block the attackers from entering the church. The women kick the men, hit them with a club, spit upon them, and spray them with a liquid spray.
The National Encounter of Women (ENM), which has become an annual event in Argentina and has been held in a different city each year for the past 32 years, is infamous for these criminal displays of intolerance and manifest hatred for Christianity. As we have seen with the violent Antifa riots and assaults in the United States and elsewhere, the anarchist-communist attackers are emboldened and become more aggressive when it becomes obvious that “progressive” city governments order the police to stand down and allow the outlaw activists to have their way.
That appears to have been the case in Resistencia this year and in San Juan, where the ENM confab was held in 2013. The assault on the San Juan Cathedral was even more heinous than the attack in Resistencia. In San Juan, the cathedral was protected by a cordon of men who stood fast, peacefully praying the rosary and blocking the entrance. Their raging, screaming attackers, who appeared like and acted like horrid harridans from hell, viciously beat, spit upon, spray-painted, and pepper-sprayed the men, who stoically continued their praying and refused to retaliate against their “feminist” antagonists. The radical fems even performed obscene sexual acts in front of the men and pushed their breasts into their faces while shouting “get your rosaries out of our ovaries.”
Viewing videos of the ENM events, it is not difficult at all to imagine that these infernal feminist furies would turn murderous in an instant, if they thought they could get away with it — as their ideological comrades have done, once in power, as in the French Revolution, the Spanish Civil War, and every communist revolution.
The most disturbing aspect of the ENM outrages, however, is not their obscene, sacrilegious, and violent nature, but the fact that they are funded, in part, by the American taxpayers and American tax-exempt organizations and foundations. One of the sponsoring organizations for ENM’s annual anti-Christian rage fests is the Fundación para el Desarrollo de Políticas Sustentables (Foundation for the Development of Sustainable Policies, or FUNDEPS), a nonprofit organization based in Córdoba, Argentina. Where does FUNDEPS get its funding? According to financial reports on FUNDEPS’ website, the organization’s budget is principally funded by the U.S. government and U.S.-based tax-exempt foundations and NGOs: the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, which FUNDEPS lists as providing 20 percent of its budget; the National Endowment for Democracy (NED, a U.S. agency), 19 percent; Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), 15 percent; Global Greengrants Fund (GGF) 10 percent; the World Health Organization (WHO, a United Nations agency funded by the U.S. government); the World Resources Institute (WRI); the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University; CIVICUS (World Alliance for Citizen Participation); and others.
Not content merely to denounce and verbally attack Christianity with scurrilous propaganda, the Left (communists, socialists, anarchists, Islamic jihadists, feminists, LGBT activists, environmental extremists) is increasingly resorting to “direct action” (or “propaganda of the deed”) ranging from vandalism and bombings against church property to assassination threats and assaults against church representatives. Although virtually all Christian denominations are considered to be “the enemy” by many of the revolutionary Left, the Catholic Church has been especially targeted for violent attack. The following list is but a small sampling of the escalating campaign against the Catholic Church.
California, USA, September-October 2017 — Since Pope Francis announced, on September 23, 2015 the canonization of Father Junipero Serra as a recognized saint of the Catholic Church, vandals have carried out a series of attacks on his statues and the missions he founded. Saint Junipero Serra founded his first mission in San Diego in 1769 and later personally founded another eight of the 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco. In a recent attack at Mission Santa Barbara, on September 11, the statue of the saint was decapitated and splashed with red paint. Marxists and “Indigenous Peoples” activists accuse Fr. Serra of being a “colonialist exploiter,” one of many labels of opprobrium the radical Left affix to those whom they intend to destroy, regardless of how virtuous their intended victim may be, or may have been. On October 11, the anarchist-communist website InsurrectionNews celebrated the most recent vandalism attack against the saint, in San Francisco, with this headline: “Statue of Slaver and Colonizer Junipero Serra Paint-Bombed in San Francisco.” The story under the heading declared:
On October 8th, the statue of the slaver and colonizer Junipero Serra in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park was paint-bombed. Revolutionary and anti-colonial slogans were spray-painted on the pedestal.

Santiago, Chile, August 22, 2017 — The Church of National Gratitude in the Alameda section of the nation’s capital has been the target of repeated attacks. The iconic Catholic church of the Salesian order was firebombed by masked intruders at the end of Mass on August 22. In June 2016, masked Antifa demonstrators invaded the church, seized a statue of Christ Crucified, and publicly destroyed it in the middle of the street (see photo above). In March 2016, Father Rafael Cáceres Olave, the pastor of Holy Sacrament Church in Santiago, received a death threat in the mail: bullets and a manifesto from a group identifying itself as the Death Brigade FAI/FRI. The name, as the context of the manifesto makes clear, was adopted from the murderous Death Brigade of the Spanish Civil War, during the 1930s. A communist-anarchist unit that gloried in persecuting Catholic priests and nuns and burning churches, the Death Brigade was affiliated with FAI (Federacion Anarquista Iberia, or Federation of Iberian Anarchists). The threatening manifesto, posted on the anarchist-communist website, InsurrectionNews, declared:
The Death Brigade in the Spain of 1936 looted churches, desecrated the graves of priests and murdered those who had been kept alive and protected by fascists in small towns.
In present day Chile these actions have continued. Various insurrectionary cells have bombed churches with explosives and incendiary devices. Even during protests churches have been targeted, for example: The Church of the National Gratitude that is located in the center of Alameda. It front doors were burned by insurrectos during a manifestation on August 25, 2011. The doors saw flames again on the 23rd of May, 2015 in commemoration of the death of anarchist Mauricio Morales, and days later, on May 28 — again during a manifestation — its doors were fuel for the anarchist fire.
The threatening letter also let it be known that the Chilean group was operating in solidarity with two anarchist terrorists, Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar, who were then on trial in Spain for bombing churches (see below). “The fire, the attack, the threat against any representative of the church and the power is fully justified,” the Death Brigade letter concluded. “We have the weapons and our willingness to attack them. Their days of revelry are over.”
Mexico City, Mexico, July 25, 2017 — An explosive device was detonated at the Mexican bishop’s offices, across the street from the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico’s most visited religious site and one of the world’s most popular pilgrimage destinations. A feminist anarchist group calling itself the “Informal Feminist Commando of Anti-Authoritarian Action Coatlicue” claimed credit for the explosion. The eponym chosen by the alleged boastful bombers is telling. Coatlicue was the bloodthirsty, flesh-eating goddess of the Aztecs’ horrific pagan religion that reveled in mass human sacrifice. Statues of Coatlicue depict her as a clawed monster with a head composed of two facing snakes and a necklace of human hearts, hands, and skulls (from her sacrificed victims).
Minya, Egypt, May 26, 2017 — The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for a murderous attack on a pilgrimage bus of Coptic Catholics en route to the Monastery of Saint Samuel. Gunmen stopped the bus and shot dozens of the pilgrims, killing 26 and wounding 25. The victims included men, women and children. Coptic Christians have been especially targeted for extermination in Egypt. On April 9, ISIS suicide bombers killed more than 40 worshippers in attacks on two Coptic Catholic churches as they celebrated Palm Sunday. A Christmas bombing of a Coptic cathedral in Cairo in December 2016 left 29 dead.
Montserrat, Spain, April 26, 2017 — The Catalan-based Marxist-feminist-anarchist organization Arran posted a video showing a close-up view of two lesbians kissing in front of the famous statue of Our Lady of Montserrat (also known as the Black Madonna) at the historic Montserrat monastery, the Catalan National Shrine. A press release from the group said the profanation of the pilgrimage church “serves the struggle against the lesbophobia of the institutions as well as the church” and “destroys a family type that destroys us.” (The Left’s anti-Christian campaign in Spain also includes actual terrorist bombing attacks on Catholic churches; see below.)
Mindanao, Philippines, December 25, 2016 — Sixteen people were wounded in a grenade explosion outside a Catholic church during a Christmas eve mass in the Philippines’ southern island of Mindanao. No group claimed credit for the attack, but an assortment of Islamic terrorist groups operate on the island.
Spanish church attacks, bombings, 2012-2016 — In October 2012, anarchists stormed the Maria Auxiliadora, a school of 1,200 students operated by the Salesian Order in Merida, Spain. “Where are the priests? We want to burn them at the stake!” the Antifa invaders demanded over loudspeakers. The anarchists were reported to be carrying symbols, flags, and signs identified with the communist-anarchist groups responsible for some of the worst atrocities during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), when nearly 7,000 Catholic bishops, priests, monks, and nuns were martyred, and thousands of churches destroyed or seriously damaged. In February 2013, an explosive device planted in Madrid’s La Almudena Cathedral by an anarchist group known as the Mateo Morral Insurrectionist Comando failed to detonate. Another bomb attributed to the same group exploded in the Basilica of our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, Spain. It damaged the historic church but did not injure anyone. The group is named for Mateo Morral, a Catalonian anarchist assassin who attempted to kill Spain’s King Alfonso XIII and his bride, Maria Eugenia, on their wedding day, in 1906. Although the royal couple escaped unhurt from the assassination attempt, 30 people were killed by the bomb thrown by Morral. In 2014, Catalonian police arrested members of the terrorist group, who have become rallying celebrities for anarchists and leftists worldwide. The trial, in 2016, of the accused bombers Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar was followed closely on anarchist websites, as indicated by the Death Brigade actions in Chile mentioned above.
Despite the innumerable atrocities of the communists and anarchists during the Spanish Civil War, that conflict has ever remained a romantic touchstone event for the “progressive” Left. Its anti-Christian fires are currently being rekindled in Antifa circles, where the Spanish “Republicans” (as the communists/anarchists were known) are being held up as exemplars. One of the most recent additions to this propaganda effort is Spain In Our Hearts: Americans in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-39, by Adam Hochschild, a co-founder of the radical socialist Mother Jones magazine and an associate of the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), the radical Marxist “think tank” that has been closely tied to the Soviet KGB and Communist Cuba’s intelligence agency, the DGI. On September 28, 2017, the left-wing news site Splinter published an interview with Hochschild titled “When American Antifa Got Real: Talking With Adam Hochschild About the Spanish Civil War.” If Hochschild’s adulatory promotionals were relegated to fringy leftist such as Mother Jones and Splinter, it might not matter all that much, but he has been receiving similar sendoffs from the New York Times, NPR, Salon, Los Angeles Times, etc.
It is very likely that the same establishment media that treats the violent Antifa thugs with such sympathy would also heartily applaud if the black-clad cadres dropped all restraints and began burning churches and killing Christians with the same demonic abandon as their anarchist-communist heroes of the Spanish Civil War.
