The mainstream media is going into overdrive trying to put their spin on this week’s election. It would appear they all are working from the same script. Their advice is tantamount to putting a nail in the coffin of the Grand ‘Ole Party. They suggest the GOP abandon all talks of immigration restrictions, embrace amnesty, and adopt the Left’s twin positions of racial collectivism and ethnic pandering to gain the elusive Hispanic vote. These highly paid pundits neglect to mention that this has been done by Republicans from George W. Bush to John McCain to Mitt Romney and has resulted in absolutely zero success. This heavily sought-after demographic doesn’t seem too enthused about a party that trumpets the free market and personal responsibility (in rhetoric at least).
The weird part about this idiotic debate between deceivers and the deluded is the much larger story told by the election returns. It is an undeniable fact that the Democratic Party is losing married white voters, who are still the largest portion of the electorate. As the talking heads spin and sputter about Hispanics who comprise only 10 percent of voters, they choose to ignore that the voting bloc who once defined this country is fleeing from the party of Obama and Pelosi.
Even USA Today has to begrudgingly admit this inconvenient truth:
The fact that Republican rival Mitt Romney carried solid majorities of older voters and whites, and that he was preferred by voters on the economic issues that dominated the election, didn’t seem to be enough to carry this new day. Indeed, Romney won the biggest majority of the white vote of any presidential candidate in U.S. history who then failed to win the White House.… On Romney’s side: Six of 10 whites and nearly six of 10 seniors. A solid majority of men and of married women, and nearly two-thirds of white men. More than 90% of Republicans and of conservatives. He won high-income voters, evangelical Christians, and those who attend religious services every week or more often.
Why the mass exodus? One explanation is that white liberals are becoming an endangered species. After all, a group that exalts murdering unborn babies in the womb as a right and cherishes a free lifetime supply of contraceptives doesn’t have too bright of a future. You have to have children in order to have a future and people who view “reproductive rights” as the right to not reproduce are destined to go the way of the dodo. This doesn’t mean that the Left is facing imminent defeat. Far from it! The shrinking of white liberals will be offset by the influx of new immigrants, which doesn’t bode well for the cultural left. (Hint: gay marriage isn’t well-received in the third world).
Another explanation for the white flight is that the Democrats’ political strategy of pandering to nonwhite racial collectives has caught up with them. Whites have realized that the Democrats are intentionally seeking the displacement of the white majority in order to ensure electoral success. While the Democrats pay lip service to inclusiveness and diversity, they have done far more to foster racial division among voters. This does make them vulnerable at the polls for a short period of time though. Demographer William Frey, of the Brookings Institution, told USA Today, “[y]ou can’t just get by on these very small segments of the white population and hope minorities will carry you through, at least in the short term.” At least in the short term is right. By short-term, Frey means the next decade or two while baby boomers are still a large enough bloc of voters to make an impact. This vulnerability will evaporate, though, as voters who were children when Howdy Doody was a television staple pass from this life. The voting slack left by the boomers will be picked up by the “new demographic.”
All of this forces us to face that we are becoming more divided as a nation with voters voting based on race. How did the Republicans let this happen? It seems to be too late to turn back the immigration tsunami. The last truly viable chance for that was in the 1990s with the Buchanan brigades, but the neoconservative GOP establishment saw to it that their revolution never got off the ground. The neocons then got their Trotskyite wars for global democracy which alienated more voters than Buchanan’s immigration rhetoric ever did. But the neoconservative foreign policy is destined to fail and collapse under its own unsustainable weight, forcing America to return home with its tail between its legs. A domestic policy of a wealth-redistributing police state, unlike foreign policy, will be here to stay for generations to come.
So where do we go from here? The GOP lacks the courage to pursue a common sense immigration policy now when they would have to win at least 65 percent of the white vote to be competitive. I’m not saying it can’t be done. I think it could be if it was framed properly so as to defend against accusations of racism, but I don’t have faith in the “dumb party” to make coherent arguments. The smart advice would be for the GOP to stick to constitutionalist principles, political decentralization, and advocate individual rights as a contrast to the Democrats trumpeting collective rights and a centralized federal super-state. I’m not holding my breath waiting for that to happen. Unfortunately, I fear the GOP will take the suicide advice offered by the media pundits and continue to follow a failing strategy which has lost two presidential elections and counting.
All of this does make me confident in three things about where the American political scene is headed: Both parties will become more indistinguishable, race relations will deteriorate, and our government will come to resemble the despotic ones that America’s immigrants were trying to flee.
