The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of former President Donald Trump in a 9-0 decision, stating, “We conclude that states may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But states have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the presidency.”
The ruling comes just before Super Tuesday, where 15 states will hold presidential primaries, and overturns a decision by the Colorado Supreme Court in Anderson v. Griswold where Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold attempted to remove Trump from the Colorado ballot.
After the Supreme Court ruling, Griswold continued to allege her interpretation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was correct, writing on X, “I am disappointed in the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision stripping states of the authority to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment for federal candidates. Colorado should be able to bar oath-breaking insurrections from our ballot.”
Trump wrote this morning on Truth Social, “BIG WIN FOR AMERICA!!!” and announced a news conference at 12:30 p.m. that will take place at Mar-a-Lago.
