New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan denied former President Donald Trump’s motion to dismiss a 34-count indictment in a case alleging former attorney Michael Cohen made a $130,000 payment to Stephanie Clifford, a.k.a. Stormy Daniels, after a non-disclosure agreement on behalf of Trump shortly before the 2016 presidential election.
Trump attorney Todd Blanche told Merchan the case should be dismissed due to Trump running for president, to which Merchan responded, “That’s not a legal argument. I’ll see you on March 25.” The trial is scheduled to start on March 25 when jury selection begins. The trial is expected to last six weeks.
After the court hearing, Trump stated on Truth Social:
Just left the Courthouse in Manhattan. Biden’s DOJ people have taken control of the case. There was NO CRIME, and almost all legal scholars are saying that. It’s Election Interference, the Dems 2024 way of cheating!
