Gaza Ceasefire Negotiations Extended

Negotiations between Israel and Hamas were extended through Tuesday as the two sides are working to reach a ceasefire deal before the month of Ramadan.

Reuters reports a Hamas official as saying, “The delegation will remain in Cairo on Tuesday for more talks, they are expected to wrap up this round later today,” and an Israeli official claiming they are working to reach a deal, stating, “Israel is making every effort to reach an agreement. We are awaiting a response from Hamas.”

Earlier today President Joe Biden stated the United States was working toward providing aid for Palestinians, posting on X, “The United States is committed to pulling out every stop to get more aid to those in Gaza who desperately need it. We won’t stand by. We won’t let up.”

Israeli politician and opposition leader Yair Lapid met with U.S. Senators Cory Booker (D-N.Y.) and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) in the Knesset earlier today, stating on X, “Great to see my friends Senator @corybooker and @senatorbennet in the Knesset. We discussed the urgent need to bring all the hostages home. I thanked them for their solidarity and support for Israel since the horrific attacks of October 7th.”

The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) commented on the famine in Gaza, stating on X, “Babies are dying of malnutrition & dehydration. Man-made famine is looming. Doctors are amputating limbs of injured children without anesthetic. Despite all the horrors — the worst might be yet to come. The fate of millions of people who depend on @UNRWA hang in the balance.”
