Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.VA.) announced he will not be running for president. “I will not be seeking a third-party run. I will not be involved in a presidential run,” Manchin stated at a speaking event at West Virginia University earlier today.

There was speculation Manchin would run for president after he announced his retirement in November 2023. In his retirement announcement Manchin stated, “But what I will be doing is traveling the country and speaking out to see if there is an interest to create a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together.”

Manchin said he didn’t believe progress could be made in Washington, saying in the speech today, “This will be the least productive, most destructive Congress that we’ve ever had … people just want to get sh*t done. I want to get it done too.”

Although Manchin stated he would not be running in the 2024 election, he stated he would be involved in the presidential race, saying, “I will get involved in making sure that we secure a president who has the knowledge and has a passion and has the ability to bring this country together.”
