Pelosi: Amnesty is “Manifestation of the Gospels”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) favors the offering amnesty to illegal aliens. During an address to the Asian-American and Pacific Islanders Summit on Wednesday, Pelosi informed those in attendance that she would like to see a “path to legalization” laid for those currently in this country who entered without documentation.

“Hopefully, we will be moving toward comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders, enforces our laws, protects our workers, honors family unification and has a path to legalization–so that we have certainty in our country and respect for the contributions that newcomers bring to us,” Pelosi said.?

This isn’t the first time Speaker Pelosi has put in her two pesos regarding immigration “reform.” At the Catholic Community Conference held last week, Pelosi lectured the congregation that passing comprehensive immigration legislation would be a “manifestation of our living the Gospels.” Specifically, she told the convention, ”I would hope that there’s one thing that we can do working together as we go forward that speaks to what the Bible tells us about the dignity and worth of every person, and that is on the subject of immigration,” she continued. “I want you to instruct your, whatever the communication is — the people, some of them, oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews and you have to tell them that this is a manifestation of our living the Gospels.”? It seems that with all her learning, Speaker Pelosi lamentably did not “get understanding,” to paraphrase the Good Book. And followers of Jesus Christ would do well to recall the words of the Savior himself when he warned: “This people draweth night unto me with their mouth and honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” This divine denouncement is especially applicable in the case of an elected official who chastises men of the cloth for not sufficiently manifesting their Christian charity, while she, in a demonstration of a shameful lack of brotherly love, disregards the peace and safety of thousands of innocent men and women (most of whom are share Pelosi’s Christian faith) who live in danger along the southern border. Pelosi, her pretend piety notwithstanding, placed the safety of those citizens in peril when in 2006 she voted against the Secure Fence Act which funded the construction a 700-mile-long double-reinforced fence along the Mexican border.

Nancy Pelosi is no Jane-come-lately to the support of amnesty for illegal aliens, but for all her avowed advocacy, she has not introduced a single piece of legislation that would put her principles to a vote. This lack of demonstrable commitment to the cause hasn’t stopped pro-illegal activists from praising her devotion, however. In 2004, the League of United Latin American Citizens gave her the “Legislative Award,” for her extraordinary service. In her acceptance speech, Pelosi predictably pandered to the crowd and declared, "We do not need a temporary worker program; we need a meaningful pathway to citizenship.”
