TV Advertisers Targeted for Values They Promote

Thanks to pro-family groups like the Parents Television Council (PTC), Focus on the Family, and the American Family Association, parents across America are getting the low-down on what’s wrong with what’s on TV — and what can be done about it beyond merely flipping the switch.

A new study from a youth research organization finds that even amidst a culture in which an aggressive media encourages teens to become sexually active, a solid majority still want to embrace traditional values regarding sex. According to the latest research by OneHope, a Christian youth outreach that provides research to non-profit organizations, 61 percent of American teens want to remain abstinent until marriage, with an additional 63 percent saying that while they have already been sexually active, they would like to return to a place of sexual purity.

That’s the determination the Parents Television Council (PTC), a pro-family TV watchdog group, makes in its recent study entitled Tinseltown’s New Target. Based on an analysis of the most popular prime-time shows among 12- to 17-year-olds during the 2009-2010 broadcast season, PTC’s study finds that Hollywood is eager not only to “objectify and fetishize young girls, but to sexualize them in such a way that real teens are led to believe their sole value comes from their sexuality.”

In a move that has become all too predictable from the children of high-profile political celebrities, former President George W. Bush’s daughter, Barbara Bush, has come out publicly in favor of same-sex marriage.

A police officer who was disciplined by a Pennsylvania university for refusing to forcibly remove a group of Christians sharing their faith on the school’s campus has taken his case to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), a conservative legal advocacy group.
