Obama's Interview with Al Arabiya
On the morning of Tuesday, January 27, President Barack Obama gave an interview with Al Arabiya, an Arab news network based out of Dubai, in an attempt to quell Arab distrust and hate of America. He also sent former Senator George Mitchell to the Middle East as an envoy to help broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Redistributing the Wealth — Fairly
Some family friends of ours had quite a bit of excitement recently: They adopted a baby boy! Their new boy is the joy of joys for them because, though they desperately wanted children, they had been languishing on adoption waiting lists for years, without much hope of getting a child. They were ideal prospective parents: Both the husband and the wife are college educated; the couple is financially stable; they could produce an almost endless supply of character references; and their marriage vows remain solidly intact after nearly 20 years together. In other words, they could provide a stable, loving, traditional home for a child.
Going to the Dogs
The following satirical piece is intended as a warning as to the danger of judicial activism and how far down the slippery slope we can proceed when the law is separated from moral absolutes and marriage is no longer defined as being between one man and one woman.
“Yes, Your Honor, I am completely serious about proceeding with this lawsuit; it is not frivolous. And no, Your Honor, I have never been diagnosed with a psychiatric problem or detained in a mental-health facility of any kind. And no, I have not suffered any serious blows to my skull in the last six months.”
Not Accepting Student Failure
For a brief period in January, the Internet and talk shows were abuzz with chatter about public schools: “Did Oprah Winfrey really imply that students aren’t learning because they don’t want to learn”; “Is it true Oprah is building a $40 million school in South Africa, and she refuses to build one in the United States?”
