Libertarian-leaning Congressman Justin Amash of Michigan (Freedom Index rating: 92 percent) is considering a run for the soon-to-be vacant U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, according to various interviews the two-term congressman has conducted over the previous week.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz's question to California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein on the Second Amendment in a March 14 hearing forced MSNBC hosts into conniptions, with Joe Scarborough saying that Cruz had made “willfully ignorant” statements and Rachel Maddow claiming Cruz had been “patronizing” to Feinstein as a woman.

The Rand Paul filibuster against drone strikes in the nomination of John Brennan as CIA director brought praise from across the political spectrum, but also harsh (and inaccurate) criticism from the Wall Street Journal and other neoconservative pundits.

President Obama and his administration have revealed their strategy on how to win the sequestration debate: Exaggerate and lie about the impact of the cuts, which really only serve to slow the growth of federal spending, and maximize the pain caused by those cuts.

In a military court on February 28, former Army intelligence officer Bradley Manning confessed to sending a record number of secret documents to Internet whistleblowing website WikiLeaks, but denied he had leaked any information to the enemy.

Despite the dawning of the latest “fiscal cliff” — the sequester — the world appears not to have fallen apart, notwithstanding the dire predictions by the Obama White House. Even the president admitted it's not that bad, in a February 28 speech to businessmen.

From Tyranny to Liberty

For Drs. Barbara and Michael Geldner, the unspeakable horrors of Hitler's Auschwitz and Stalin's Siberia have fueled an undying devotion to liberty.

Michigan congressman Justin Amash engaged in a successful smackdown of White House Press Secretary Jay Carney in a Tweet war February 13-14. The social media snit got started after Carney tried to make political hay of Amash's criticism of GOP leadership over the budget sequester, and ended with Amash burning the White House's position that the sequester was a looming evil: “@PressSec It's even more disingenuous for Pres O to call sequester 'devastating' when he came up w/it & signed it into law.”

One would have thought the twin Republican responses to President Obama's State of the Union address by Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul should have been almost identical in opposition to the president. But they ended up a study in sharp contrast.

In his February 12 State of the Union address, President Obama unloaded a leftist laundry list of plans, including the implementation of gun control, more education spending, federal pre-school care, and more high-handed executive orders.
