When you hear that a movie theater was fined $80,000 dollars for discrimination, you might wonder if it refused to hire blacks or promote women. But this wasn’t the case with the Carmike 14 cinema, in Dover, Delaware. What was its Bull Connor moment?
Many say that objection to homosexual group GOProud’s participation in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) convention is much ado about nothing. And while these critics aren’t necessarily proud of GOProud, they often say that the conservative ranks shouldn’t be creating unnecessary division. I would agree — but necessary division is a different matter.
It seems that it was a well-kept secret. Residents in the Mansfield Independent School District in Texas found out just this Monday evening that the district had decided to force some of their children to take Arabic language and culture classes.
The Chinese exhibition “Secrets of the Silk Road” ran without incident in California and Texas. But now Chinese authorities have decided that parts of it really must be kept secret and have ordered that some artifacts and, most notably, a certain mummy not be displayed. He committed his infanticide by taking the children and severing their spines with a pair of scissors. Yet, as unbelievable as it sounds, this doesn’t come close to painting an accurate picture of the veritable house of horrors that was his abortion mill.
It was wholly predictable. When the shooter of Democratic Congressman Gabrielle Giffords turned out to be a white male — one Jared Lee Loughner — it was a given that the blame gamers would use the tragedy to tarnish the right. And, sure enough, the onus is, in fact, being placed on talk radio and Tea Parties, on Sarah Palin and Second Amendment proponents, on conservatives upholding constitutionalism.
Increasingly, Americans might say the following about Barack Obama: “He’s definitely a man who has faith….
In what, I have no idea.”
When Roman leader Julius Caesar became “dictator for life” in 44 B.C., he had an asset all aspiring despots need: the military’s loyalty. For without boots on the ground, a totalitarian nightmare remains nothing more than an ambitious villain’s dream.
