The Tyranny of Human Rights Commissions

If you want to know what lies just a little ways further down the rabbit hole of political correctness, go north, Western man. If you do, you’ll wind up in Canada, where the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal (OHRT) has given us what columnist Margaret Wente calls “The case of the smelly lunch.” But it smells more like tyranny.

Question: Are rules meant for only one side? Are civil laws meant for citizens but not the police? Are moral laws meant for laymen but not clergy?

Okay, one more: Are constitutional limitations meant for states but not the feds?

Dr. Gosnell and Legal Back-alley Abortions

Selwyn DukeMany have heard about Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the West Philadelphia abortionist who was just indicted for the murders of a 41-year-old woman during a botched abortion and eight babies born alive. He committed his infanticide by taking the children and severing their spines with a pair of scissors. Yet, as unbelievable as it sounds, this doesn’t come close to painting an accurate picture of the veritable house of horrors that was his abortion mill.

Selwyn DukeIt was wholly predictable. When the shooter of Democratic Congressman Gabrielle Giffords turned out to be a white male — one Jared Lee Loughner — it was a given that the blame gamers would use the tragedy to tarnish the right. And, sure enough, the onus is, in fact, being placed on talk radio and Tea Parties, on Sarah Palin and Second Amendment proponents, on conservatives upholding constitutionalism.

Americans Lack Faith in Obama’s Faith

Increasingly, Americans might say the following about Barack Obama: “He’s definitely a man who has faith….

In what, I have no idea.”

Selwyn DukeWhen Roman leader Julius Caesar became “dictator for life” in 44 B.C., he had an asset all aspiring despots need: the military’s loyalty. For without boots on the ground, a totalitarian nightmare remains nothing more than an ambitious villain’s dream.

Selwyn DukeDoes the New York City Department of Sanitation have blood on its hands? If an allegation made by the New York Post is true, the answer is a shameful yes. The paper reports that the painfully slow snow clean-up after the recent blizzard that struck the East Coast wasn’t the result of unprecedented snowfall — it was the result of a sanitation union tantrum. Writes the Post, "Selfish Sanitation Department bosses from the snow-slammed outer boroughs ordered their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts — a disastrous move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles ... over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts."

Selwyn DukeHe was small in stature but big in heart — and, presumably, faith. His name was Adam. And he is among the youngest of Christian martyrs.

The Homosexual Agenda: Urine for a Shock

When dozens of books on homosexual issues were found doused in urine in a Harvard University library, the campus police (HUPD) were quick to label it a “hate crime.” But now it turns out that what could have been construed as an attempt at literary improvement was just the work of an all-thumbs library official.

Selwyn DukeYou can believe me when I say that I have no affection for Julian Assange. It’s clear that he’s a self-centered publicity seeker who, in grand leftist style, will subordinate the good of others to his own ambitions. But this doesn’t mean I’m incapable of judging him fairly, and, frankly, I’ve never heard anything more preposterous than the “rape” charges currently leveled against him.
