If Ashcroft can be sued, then where are all the lawsuits against Janet Reno from the families of those who were killed at Waco and Ruby Ridge? This guy was detained,,,, Ooooooooh how horrible! At least he wasn't burned to death or shot in his front yard. - Lewis

Confusion with terms

There appears to be confusion regarding the political spectrum and political philosophy. Political philosophies such as libertarianism and conservatism best work in a republic. Philosophies such as liberalism, statism, and centrism work better in oligarchies. - Bonnie

Rove, Bush, Cheney, and Ashcroft are oligarchists, as are Obama, Pelosi, Biden, Bernake, et al. The title of your comment was "Obfuscation". It was very appropriate in light of your attempt to redefine reality on your own terms.

A theocracy is not mentioned in the political spectrum. The reason is that there have as yet been no true theocracies. There have been oligarchies masquerading as theocracies, but no theocracies.

There is, however, a theocracy coming at some time in the future. At this time, there will be a one world government. It will directly follow a short-lived one world government of the oligarchy type. You can choose to believe it or choose not to believe it, but either way your (or anyone else's) opinions aren't going to change the facts. - Bonnie

Practical political "spectrum"

The true division in politics is between those who wish to force their prejudices and whims on others and those who don't. Take the world's smallest political quizz at www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html to see where you fall

"It is the duty of every patriot to protect his country from his government." - Patrick Henry - Carter

What you're saying is pure nonsense in America, Bonnie. The political spectrum displayed in that video is not practically applicable to the state of politics within the US, given that the right wing in the US has clearly been hijacked by an active and vocal group of theocracy-loving fundamentalists as well as by folks (like Rove, Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, etc.) who don't respect the Constitution and succeeded in abusing and expanding the power of the Executive branch of gov't. - Anthro

About the extreme right...

joeliberty speaks of the extreme right. I have a suspicion that he is referring to committed constitutional conservatives. Perhaps not, but knowing the confusion over the political spectrum, there is reason to wonder.

This is a very good 10 minute video that can clear a lot of the confusion.
http://www.casttv.com/video/sinafc1/explanation-of-political-spectrum-fascism-socialism-communism-democracy-republic-video

In a republic, we are ruled by law (the constitution), and the law is no respecter of person.

As explained in the video, the extreme right is anarchy. Anarchy is unstable and more liable to transform into an oligarchy than a republic. What I am saying is that the people on the extreme right are much closer to our liberal "friends" than to the conservatives. - Bonnie

Immoral

This should not come as a surprise to anyone. This poor fellow's crime was being a Muslim, which in John Ashcroft's eyes gave him reason to launch jihad against him. However, this is just a small taste of what Christians face in predominant Muslim countries, only they get shot and killed. This should give Muslim's in this country a sense of appreciation that we do not kill them the way many of them kill and persecute other people of different faith's, although I think the extreme right would like to have it this way! Justice For All, should be the goal in this country...that said, Ashcroft should be in Federal Prison for his violations of the Constitution. - joeliberty

hold my breath here until al-Kidd gets restitution for his destroyed life. Shouldn't be long, right? I mean, clearly what was done to him was so corrupt and evil that any politician with half a conscience and a sense of decency will... Wait - politician, concscience, and decency? Nevermind. Sorry al-Kidd, I think you're screwed. You prayed to the wrong god. Your bad. Sometimes I do wish there were such a thing as hell. I'd almost be willing to go myself if I could take the criminals in charge here with me. - marko

Would be for all the "officials", including the "agents", involved in these cases to be tried, convicted and sentenced to life without parole in solitary confinement where they could never bother the human race again. - Carter
